    Reporting to the Inventory Supervisor, the Buyer is responsible for providing procurement support including asset disposal, contract development, analysis, and execution critical to production. The Buyer collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, including maintenance planners and schedulers, inventory control, and other buyers to support the administration of procurement duties with an emphasis on cost effective supply of goods and services while reducing Teck's exposure to external supply chain risk.

    To be successful, we are looking for someone with excellent negotiating, problem solving, and decision-making abilities, who is self-motivated and can work with minimal direction. This person has strong communication and interpersonal skills and can build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners. The ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational abilities is vital.

    In this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to implement procedural improvements to streamline business practices and be instrumental in the successful execution of contracts. You will also interact with both operations and support and contract groups throughout our company, gaining knowledge of our mining business.

    Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Negotiate vendor contracts to ensure the timely and cost-effective supply and sale of goods and services
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contract terms and conditions while maintaining vendor relationships
  • Research and provide information to department supervisors concerning new goods and services
  • Strong understanding of business accounting processes
  • Possess a strong business acumen
  • Become familiar with existing Teck Coal and departmental operating policies and procedures while managing procurement processes from inception to conclusion
  • Monitor compliance and facilitate interventions to manage risks
  • Qualifications:

  • Degree, diploma, certificate, or designation, such as Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or a similar program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience
  • Good understanding of inventory, contract structures, and terms and conditions
  • Excellent digital literacy and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems

    The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
