Clinical Coordinator:
Primary Purpose:
To provide leadership and expertise in the development, management, coordination, and evaluation of the clinical and practicum placement processes within the College of Nursing with a particular focus on the Saskatoon campus.
Nature of Work:
The College of Nursing is the largest non-departmentalized college at the University of Saskatchewan and is among the most distributed with six campuses across the province.
This position is based at the University of Saskatchewan Saskatoon Campus and reports to the Manager Clinical Placement Coordination. The clinical coordinator establishes and maintains professional relationships that support collaboration and problem-solving.
This role is a complex position requiring an applicant with strong technical and social skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload with competing priorities.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
- In consultation with the Manager, manages the recruitment and retention of parttime clinical nursing instructors.
- Coordinates the assignment of instructors to clinical and lab groups and develops employment contracts for clinical instructors.
- Establishes mutually beneficial partnerships with health care agencies, clinical placement personnel, faculty at the University of Saskatchewan, and partner institutions to develop opportunities for appropriate community and institutionbased practicum experiences.
- Responsible for participating in all aspects of planning, coordinating, managing, tracking, and evaluating clinical practicum placements for the College of Nursing's undergraduate nursing education in collaboration with the Manager and clinical coordinators.
- Under the leadership of the Manager, develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates the appropriate Health and Safety guidelines and processes (e.g., CPR, fittesting, CRC, pandemic planning, TLR, HSPnet, and WCB consent forms).
- Contributes to ongoing development, maintenance, and analysis of the computerized clinical placement database to maximize the effectiveness of the system.
- Works collaboratively with all provincial Nursing programs to ensure adequate clinical placements for students.
- Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of special projects related to expanded clinical placement opportunities (e.g., community development practice, international experiences, rural and remote experiences, interprofessional placement opportunities).
- Actively participates in and provides expertise and knowledge to committees as required.
Education:
Registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
At least five years of directly related experience in a post-secondary or equivalently complex environment is required. Teaching experience and having held a position with Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) are considered assets.
Skills:
Thorough knowledge and understanding of nursing programs, curriculum, professional competencies and provincial health care milieu, clinical resources, clinical placement trends, and nursing student preceptorships is required; Must be solutions oriented, self-motivated and creative with the ability to provide innovation and a project management approach to the position; Expertise in using Microsoft Office software and databases is essential to the success of this position; ability to effectively work both independently and as a part of a team is necessary; strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal; self-directed and innovative; and the proven ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently, meeting competing demands and tight deadlines; must interact positively, respectfully, with tact, discretion, and confidentiality and cultural awareness.
