If the answer is yes, the Ministry of Transportation's (MTO) Strategic Communications Office wants you to join our highly skilled team of communicators as a Team Lead, Strategic Communications Planning.

This position works alongside and helps coordinate a group of strategic communications advisors who lead ministry announcements and provide broad communications advice to MTO and ministers offices, reporting directly to the Assistant Director, Strategic Communications.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Lead, provide strategic advice, and execute communications initiatives related to ministry programs, projects, policies and initiatives.
  • Lead major communications initiatives and special projects, including product development such as briefing decks, news releases, backgrounders, Q&As and issues management plans.
  • Strategically plan and coordinate work with Cabinet Office Communications, Minister's office staff, Deputy Minister's office staff, ministry divisions, and other ministries and government agencies.
  • Build strong relationships and networks to support collaboration among Cabinet Office Communications, other ministry and government agency partners, stakeholders, and staff.
  • Support work integration across the MTO communications branch, ensuring all elements of communications planning, including strategic planning, issues management, earned media, digital/web tactics, and stakeholder communications are considered.

Leadership and Project Management Skills:


  • You can deliver clean, errorfree products that take all aspects of communications planning into consideration.
  • You have the skills to effectively lead groups and collaborate effectively with communications staff to achieve successful outcomes
  • You consult on communications products and processes, objectives and deadlines, and provide briefings on results and progress.
  • You can plan, prioritize and handle multiple, concurrent assignments.
  • You can work effectively across the entire OPS organization and beyond.
  • You have organizational skills to meet frequently tight and conflicting deadlines.

Interpersonal and Relationship Building Skills:


  • You provide clear leadership on assigned tasks and can monitor and review work for quality outcomes.
  • You can develop consensus and support for communicationsrelated strategic initiatives.
  • You ensure coordinated input from all key players.
  • You work with stakeholders to resolve issues, and to provide strategic advice.
  • You can build and maintain positive relationships with staff and stakeholders.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:


  • You use your problem solving skills to identify emerging issues, develop and recommend improvements, ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • You can concurrently research and analyze multiple complex issues and make recommendations on resolution for each.

Communications Skills:


  • You have experience developing and presenting reports and briefing materials.
  • You have demonstrated oral and written communication abilities.
  • You are comfortable presenting to senior leadership of ministry and across OPS, including Minister's offices, Premier's Office and Cabinet Office.
