    Permanent, full-time position – Toronto, ON

    If you are an experienced supervisor with a strong background in Engineering or Architecture and an expert knowledge in TDSB practices related to standards and compliance, this position represents an exciting opportunity for you with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

    Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sustainability, the Standards and Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for harmonizing policies, procedures, and practices to ensure the TDSB complies with the Ontario Fire Code, Toronto zoning by-laws, and other regulations.

    PRIMARY DUTIES

    More specifically, as a Standards and Compliance Coordinator, you will:

  • Develop monitoring protocols for system-wide compliance with regulations and TDSB policies and procedures;
  • Monitor and develop technical and design standards for facility construction, renewal, and maintenance including the TDSB's Elementary School Design Guideline;
  • Keep up to date on current legislation, regulations, field experience, trends and perceptions pertaining to environment, design, construction, and maintenance;
  • Harmonize policies, procedures and practices, and formalize procedures as TDSB standards (e.g., auditorium safety, gymnasium safety, automotive lifting devices, chemical storage, construction safety, occupancy load, Area of Safe Refuge);
  • Regularly review and update fire safety plans to reflect changes in building layout, occupancy, and regulations;
  • Monitor compliance, and provide regular reports on fire and lockdown drills and ensure that accurate logs are maintained;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a safe roof access program;
  • Conduct inspections of personal and automotive lifting devices, and diesel generator regularly to ensure compliance with safety standards;
  • Calculate and establish safe occupancy loads for various spaces in accordance with building codes;
  • Create and manage a drinking water source inventory by assigning new IDs and updating floor plans;
  • Review and assess facilities for accessibility compliance, and provide recommendations for ensuring spaces are accessible to individuals with disabilities;
  • Supervise designated staff;
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Department to verify procurement requirements for the release of Purchase Orders and Goods Receipts in SAP;
  • Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    To take on the role of the Standards and Compliance Coordinator , you must have:

  • A university degree in Engineering or Architecture with four years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Expert knowledge of the TDSB business practices, processes and objectives related to standards and compliance;
  • Strong commitment to client service, with demonstrated ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with others;
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication;
  • Supervisory experience with strong leadership and team-building skills;
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills;
  • Proven ability to work under pressure;
  • Knowledge of current computer environment;
  • Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and
  • Previous experience in project planning.
  • Special Requirements:

  • Provision of your own vehicle for Board business.
  • Requires travel to TDSB sites on a regular basis.
  • Wage Range: $96, - $,

    This permanent position, located at 85 Shorting Road (hybrid work eligible), requires occasional travel across TDSB sites.
