JOB DESCRIPTION


Reporting to the registered nursing staff in charge, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a part-time Patient Care Attendant (PCA) to work in our Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Clinic.

This clinic provides Electroconvulsive Therapy to registered Ontario Shores inpatients and outpatients. The position will work within an interdisciplinary team to support patients who are receiving this service.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assisting the transportation of inpatients and outpatients attending ECT pre and post treatment within the hospital
  • Escorting patients to scheduled appointments within the hospital
  • Maintaining routine levels of patient observation
  • Assisting the interdisciplinary team with pre treatment activities
  • Maintaining a safe and secure environment by participating in clinic activities such as Safety Huddles
  • Assisting with communication of appointment reminders and ECT pretreatment preparation
  • Functioning as a member of the interdisciplinary team by assisting nursing and clinical staff with general operations.

Requirements:


  • Personal Support Worker diploma.


  • Current CPR

  • Level HCP (Health Care Provider)
  • Montessoribased and/or U-First training an asset
  • Experience working with special populations eg. geriatric, LTC, acquired brain injury.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient care skills and techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
  • Demonstrated ability to assist staff in providing personal care to patients and observe and report changes in patients' condition and behaviour.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge/experience with computers
  • Meditech experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospital security and safety procedures.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under the direction of registered staff
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, problemsolving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
  • Demonstrate safe lifting and transferring skills
  • Must be available to work various daytime, nights and weekend shifts
  • Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard.
