The Role,


We are in search of a Vice President of Purchasing to join our team of professionals in our Saint John, New Brunswick office.

We are searching for someone with excellent negotiating and customer service skills. These skills are vital to the success of the role.


Requirements / Responsibilities:


  • Benchmark against best practices and improve procurement procedures, with welldocumented critical path schedules to promote the highest levels of effectiveness and efficiency
  • Lead a 5person team, including talent identification, recruiting, and team performance and development
  • Encourage, develop and maintain positive, participative relationships with vendors with an ongoing commitment to reducing costs, increasing safety and quality with an eye for continuous improvement
  • Seek opportunities to mitigate or eliminate costs
  • Oversee purchase order activities and ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement plans, policies and procedures for all sourcing processes on a corporate and divisional basis.
  • Track and report procurement operating and savings metrics.
  • Identify specific strategic sourcing opportunities (quality improvement, supplier base rationalization, cost containment and operational efficiency) and communicate their potential financial impact.
  • Gather key business requirements, data and feedback in vendor selection process.
  • Prepare RFQ's and RFP's, and makes recommendations to internal clients with bid tabulations and supporting documents.
  • Continuously improve and reevaluate purchasing activities by conducting regular spend analyses across all categories.
  • Develop, implement and manage a companywide contract management solution.
  • Identify and drive cost reductions, supplier consolidation, service delivery improvements, process efficiencies, risk mitigation and standardization across Cooke global operations.

Qualifications:


  • 15+ years of progressive experience with demonstrated accomplishment in procurement.
  • CPM or CIPS is required.
  • Proven experience building, developing, and leading effective teams.
  • Superior estimating skill, bringing rigor and process to the function.
  • A solid understanding of generally accepted purchasing principles and practices.
  • Must have experience dealing with people and issues in an ethical manner with high professionalism and integrity.
  • Superior communication (verbal & written), negotiating, and analytical skills.
  • A collaborative consensus building approach.
  • Extremely wellorganized, flexible, able to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with legal contract terms / conditions / management within North America, Europe and Latin America.
  • Experience with a global purchasing model is an asset
  • Proven ability to work through conflict, build trust, generate respect, and influence outcomes through outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills at all levels within the organization and with suppliers.
  • Proven savings track record and ability to work independently with a resultoriented mindset
  • Excellent organizational, communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills to foster respect and teamwork with internal and external partners.
  • Able to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
  • Proficient at working in a fast paced, changing environment and meeting time sensitive deadlines.
  • Expert level experience with Excel and purchasing systems.
