The Bruce County Transportation and Environmental Services Department has approximately 650 km of road and approximately 148 bridges under its jurisdiction.

The department administers a road system composed of 'collector and arterial' roads, which distinguishes the County system from the local municipal road system.

This system provides a consistent level of service between local urban, industrial, commercial and recreational centers. The Transportation and Environmental Services Department also coordinates Waste Management for the County.

About the Job


Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Foreperson is responsible for County Road maintenance and construction, supervising staff and contractors in one of four geographic areas of the County.

The incumbent ensures road safety for the public by implementing and abiding by the Bruce County Levels of Service documentation and Minimum Maintenance Standards in all weather conditions.

Winter operations are a major responsibility of this position.

Requirements:


  • Twoyear postsecondary diploma in road construction, public works, or a related field
  • Four years of previous experience in road construction/maintenance
  • Ability to create realistic schedules to support the timely completion of construction projects
  • Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, including laborers, technical, professionals, and upper management
  • Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Highly developed understanding of industry regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to adapt to new software
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Valid Class G Driver's License
  • Audiometric Testing completed within 90 days of starting position
Assets

  • Certified Engineering Technician (CET) designation
  • Experience working with and utilizing a work order system
