About Us:


The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University is a public, urban medical and dental school to serve the people of Southwestern Ontario.

The School's mission is to provide medical and dental pre-and post-doctoral education programs.


At Schulich Dentistry, we prepare qualified graduates to provide dental care as well as generate knowledge through clinical research, basic science research and other scholarly activity.

We also provide oral health care to the public through our on-site clinics and our community outreach programs, specifically, Dental Outreach Community Service (DOCS) and Oral Health, Total Health.


Responsibilities:


  • The Research Assistant will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Cecilia Dong, to support multiple areas of her research to reach outcomes in publications and presentations.

Education:


  • Masters degree in a relevant area of focus.

Experience:


Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Previous experience conducting research within dentistry.
  • Has background knowledge and experience working with patients at the bedside, especially in the dental clinical setting.
  • Has knowledge and experience working in the clinical setting with vulnerable populations (i.e., older adults, children, etc.).
  • Proficiency in conducting literature reviews, gathering data, drafting proposals, preparing grant briefs, writing manuscripts, creating surveys, and analyzing information using various research methods.
  • Experience devising a research plan and comprehensive methods using an evidencebased approach from literature findings.
  • Understanding of research ethics and compliance with institutional guidelines and regulations at Western University.
  • Previous experience conducting qualitative research such as recruiting participants, obtaining consent, conducting interviews/focus groups, administering a battery of clinical assessments and questionnaires in a professional manner, coding responses, and conducting thematic analysis, amongst others.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software tools for data collection and analysis for quantitative analysis (i.e., MS Excel, SPSS), or qualitative analysis (i.e., Qualtrics, NVivo).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate research findings, write reports, and present results to a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate research findings to a wide variety of audiences using various creative formats ranging from slideshows, figures, tables, posters, social media posts, advertisements, and infographics using tools such as MS PowerPoint, or Canva.
  • Demonstrates a high level of critical thinking and creativity to offer insights, ideas, and innovative solutions to existing projects.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain focus, and proactively approach research tasks under limited supervision.
  • Highly organized and detailoriented when filing research materials on a shared online cloud storage service (i.e., Western OneDrive).
  • Experience using online meeting scheduling tools (i.e., Doodle, Zoom, MS Teams) to coordinate and send out meeting invitations to collaborators on time.
