Purpose
The primary purpose of the Environmental Technician is to provide support in the delivery of the Authority's monitoring program, environmental education and outreach program, stewardship program, and the Drinking Water Source Protection Program.
Primary Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list)
Assist Watershed Management staff with the collection, entry and analysis of data required for Authority monitoring programs;
Assist Watershed Management staff with the development and delivery of environmental education programs and activities;
Assist in the development and implementation of stewardship projects including tree planting and habitat enhancement throughout the watershed;
Other activities may include attendance at special events and providing assistance to staff in other departments.
Skill
Post-secondary education in geography, biology, natural resources management or related discipline;
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office required, experience related to GIS and Data Management is an asset);
Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license with a clean driving record. An Ontario Ministry of Transportation 3-year driver's record (uncertified) must be provided;
Excellent oral and written communications skills;
Experience collecting data in the field and species identification;
Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network Certification (OBBN) is an asset.
A Vulnerable Sector check must be provided in accordance with the Ontario Police Record Checks Reform Act
Effort
Fatigue resulting from focusing and juggling multiple priorities, high degree of concentrated attention, focused thinking and analysis; and
Occasionally, traverse irregular or uneven surfaces and terrain while carrying equipment for collection of samples and monitoring activities.
Working Conditions
Working time is spent in a combination of office and field environments;
Working time will involve independent activity and working as part of a team;
Occasionally traverse irregular terrain and/or work in wet insect infested areas;
Occasional exposure to inclement weather;
Occasional travel outside working hours; and,
Occasionally extend or modify hours of work to attend meetings, seminars, workshops or complete fieldwork.

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
