The Organization


The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) was created in 1956, when parents gathered in Burnaby to advocate for the rights of their children with disabilities.

They have grown into one of British Columbia's largest nonprofit organizations supporting children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities.

With an annual budget of over $30M and 500 staff (BCGEU), they provide human-centred services to over 1,000 individuals and their families across Metro Vancouver each year.

BACI provides a wide range of training, development, social, recreational, and employment opportunities.

Key services for adults include community inclusion, economic inclusion (employment services & training), life sharing, supported housing, family support, subsidized housing, co-housing, and outreach & self-advocacy.

For children and youth, BACI operates five accessible childcare centres as well as youth programs. Their childcare sites are included among the _Province's Universal Child Care _sites.

The Opportunity
Finance Manager

BACI is seeking an individual who is innovative, hard-working, experienced, and solution-focused to join our dynamic leadership team

Under the direction of the CFO and Co-CEO's, as a member of BACI's Management Team, the Finance Manager will provide support for the organization's strategic initiatives, prepare key analysis and forecasting information along with participating in process creation and review.

BACI is headquartered in Burnaby and the Finance Manager will work a hybrid work schedule.

The Finance Manager participates in the provision of budgeting, financial accounting, analysis & reporting.

The Finance Manager will work closely with the CFO and provide timely reports to the Finance & Audit Committee and Board as required.

Along with providing insights for improving internal controls, processes and finance policies.


Responsibilities
The Finance Managers main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Direct supervision of finance team members.
  • Adherence to month end deadlines and management of competing priorities.
  • Monthly Financial Statement analysis provided for Board and Finance Committee.
  • Creating and framing team culture.
  • Oversee and review monthly contract revenues from primary funder.
  • Prepare for audit of financial and relevant records and information as required.
  • Work with departmental managers to review monthly operational results while providing insights and recommendations
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices, funding, reporting, and accountability measures
  • Experience in budget preparation and financial management
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience using excel, word and accounting software
  • Experience with accounts payable, receivable, reconciliations, information management, and payroll systems
  • Experience with preparing regular financial statements and reports
  • Excitement and passion for working in a diverse workplace,
  • Work collaboratively with others, but also able to work independently
  • Experience supporting and supervising
  • Aware of confidentiality practices, including legal requirements about personal information as well as data capturing and storage
  • Strong communication skills, including written and verbal; a leader in open and positive communication with all areas of the organization
  • Ability to work with a variety of community partners, funders, and supports
  • Demonstrates good judgment, ability to think critically, and to solution seek
  • Passionate about and committed to the values of community inclusion and belonging
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

Credentials:

  • CPA designation or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of financial systemsrelated experience including but not limited to bestpractices in most aspects of accounting function, systemsdesign, nonprofit reporting requirements, and accountability practices
  • Clear Criminal Records Search
  • Experience with working with contract revenue or complex financial structures is an asset.
  • Physician's letter stating the prospective employee's health is sufficient for the job
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID19 in accordance with Public Health Officer (PHO) mandate
