Job Overview:

As a barn worker, you will be responsible for the daily care and upkeep of horses. You will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the stable.

This job requires physical labour, as you will be required to lift heavy bags of feed and bales of hay, as well as clean stalls and paddocks.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Feeding, watering, and caring for horses.
  • Cleaning stalls, paddocks, and shelters, and disposing of waste appropriately.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the barn or stable, including sweeping and removing debris and hazards.
  • Grooming and bathing horses & minor wound care & rehab. Experience caring for older horses an asset.
  • Monitoring animals for signs of illness or injury and reporting any concerns to the barn manager.
  • Assisting with the delivery and storage of feed and supplies.
  • Operating and maintaining farm equipment, such as tractors, mowers, and other machinery.
  • Assisting with other farmrelated tasks as needed such as minor fence repairs and maintaining equipment.

Requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with horses required.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior and basic animal health care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available to work weekends and some holidays as needed.

Salary:
commensurate with experience


Working Conditions:
Barn workers typically work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain. The work can be physically demanding and requires standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods of time. Workers may also be exposed to animal waste and other unpleasant odors.


Job Types:
Part-time, Permanent

Part-time hours: 16 per week


Salary:
From $15.50 per hour
