The Job Summary:


The successful Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide in-person, outpatient, communication and swallowing services to patients in Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin.

The SLP will also provide some virtual services for patients out of region.


The successful applicant will be trained in specialized paediatric interventions aligned with Caregiver Mediated Early Years programming to autistic preschool children and their families, training costs covered by SJHCG.

Additionally, the Speech-Language Pathologist will also provide coverage to in-patients within Complex Care and Rehabilitation inpatient beds.


Key Accountabilities & Success Criteria:


  • Provide clinical services to program participants and their families, through 1:1 and group programs, based on psychosocial assessments, using appropriate methods of intervention and documentation within the framework of Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) knowledge and skills.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic speech/language services to referred outpatients or inpatients as appropriate
  • Attend patient conferences/meetings as appropriate
  • Make referrals to other health care professionals and /or physicians, as appropriate, with the patient's/family's consent
  • Provide communication assessments on site and within community settings in person or virtual medium
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic speech/language services and bedside swallowing assessments to referred inpatients as appropriate
  • Complies with patient safety programs, and processes including identifying and reporting adverse events/near misses
  • Attends and participates in appropriate safety training or education updates (ie. hand hygiene, emergency code reviews)
  • Identifies unsafe conditions or practices and takes appropriate action to address them including reporting or removing hazards
  • Contributes to a transparent culture of client and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures set by SJHC
  • Promotes an environment that encourages and supports change using change leadership theory.

Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
  • License with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) or ability to obtain CASLPO registration
  • Familiarity and experience with: Autism, Aphasia, Dysphagia, TBI, Developmental Exceptionalities Disabilities
  • Experience with the adult inpatient population is an asset but not mandatory.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Driver's license and a reliable vehicle with insurance will be required
  • Adequate access to internet bandwidth at home would be an asset
  • Valid Canadian Police Clearance Certificate for Vulnerable Sector
