    LABOURER – ROADS PATCH PAVING


    (Temporary, Full-time)

    The District of West Vancouver's Engineering Construction Department is currently looking for enthusiastic and hard-working temporary full-time Labourers to join our Roads team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of manual tasks working in the Engineering Construction department. These tasks can include:

    • Raking of grade materials with a lute, achieving grade and raking swales
    • Raking HMA joints/seams
    • Rake and spread asphalt mixes to the proper grade
    • Tamp and smooth joints, gutters, and connections for asphalt mixtures to properly adhere to the old surface
    • Smooth out defects which may appear after the tamping and rolling of the surface
    • Tamp and smooth asphalt surfaces inaccessible to a roller
    • Use hand and power tools to break up street surface material and perform other tasks incidental to the street repair process cleaning trucks and equipment as needed;
    • maintaining equipment in a safe and secure manner;
    • operating basic hand and power tools; such as, shovels, pipe saws, plate tamper, etc.;
    • maintaining daily pick-up records;
    • provide manual labourer assistance on various tasks and assignments; and
    • other related duties as required.


    The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:

    • Work effectively and efficiently in a team environment while maintaining a safety first mentality;
    • use a variety of tools for general maintenance and construction work; and
    • work outdoors in a physically demanding role in all types of weather conditions.


    Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following credentials:

    • Experience or training inroad construction or maintenance;
    • Experience as a Traffic Control Person (TCP);
    • Experience working in and around traffic;
    • Experience operating a roller;
    • Experience operating heavy equipment, such as a skidsteer;
    • Experience with winter operations, such as snow clearing, salting, etc.


    Candidate possessing the following is considered an asset:

    • Valid Class 1 or 3 BC Drivers License;
    • TCP certification


    The candidates must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver's License. Please upload a copy of your ICBC Driver's Abstract and Claim's History with your application.

    The successful candidates are required to supply an acceptable driver's abstract, claims history, police information check and a copy of their credentials.

    Hours of Work:
    40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

    Starting Rate of Pay:
    $29.84 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits.
    This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase based on hours completed in the position.
