    About the role:


    The Adult Recreation Coordinator is a key role within theYMCA, responsible for leadership and oversight of group fitness and gymnasiumspaces, equipment, and programming options in the John W. Lindsay YMCA. Throughleadership and collaboration with Group Fitness volunteers and staff, SpecialtyProgram Instructors, and other adult recreation volunteers, the AdultRecreation Coordinator supports member experience, engagement, and retention byensuring participants have a clean, safe, organized, supportive, and inclusiveenvironment in which to pursue their health, fitness, and recreation goals.They champion the YMCA's values and promote the YMCA internally and externally.This role is accountable for the achievement of the YMCA's operational andfinancial goals relating to group fitness and adult recreation.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensurethe smooth operation of Group Fitness and Adult Recreation programs(registered and drop-in).
    • Ensurea high level of YMCA member satisfaction, attendance, smooth waitlistmanagement, and member retention relating to group fitness and adultrecreation programming.
    • Ensuregroup fitness and adult recreation programs and schedules are readilyavailable, easy to find, and up to date for all YMCA members and staffwell in advance of registration dates.
    • Leadthe recruiting, hiring, and onboarding of group fitness instructors,specialty program instructors, and recreation volunteers, ensuring adiverse range of leaders that reflect the communities we serve.
    • Modeland champion The Y Way behavioral standards.
    • Ensureall YMCA child safeguarding and group fitness and adult recreationcertification standards are current for both staff and volunteers.
    • Leadprograms, including group fitness classes, workshops, certifications, orother programs (if certified to do so).
    • Respondto member questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
    • EnsureYMCA group fitness studios, the gymnasium, associated storage closets, andgroup fitness/recreation-related equipment are clean and maintained inkeeping with safety requirements.
    • FollowAssociation, industry, provincial, and occupational health and safetyrequirements regarding safe work practices, safety reporting, routineinspections, and monitoring of YMCA program facilities.
    • Developmarketing materials such as posters, facility TV ads, and social mediaposts to promote group fitness classes, adult recreation programs, andcertification courses.
    • Enhancemember engagement through communication of program guides and YMCA groupfitness and adult recreation offerings.
    • Supportthe Program Director and other YMCA Leadership team members in gatheringand analyzing analytics for group fitness and adult recreation programattendance.
    • Provideexcellent service to YMCA members and visitors to our facility, including:
      • Greetingmembers within 5 feet and acknowledging members within 10 feet.
      • Acknowledgingmembers who are waiting for service and asking questions to determinewhat they need, then providing support however you can.
      • Watchingfor members who appear to need assistance and proactively offering help,especially if they look confused or in distress around the facility or intheir department areas.
    • Takeownership and pride in maintaining clean and tidy spaces, ensuring staffand volunteers complete all cleaning checklists as part of daily routines.
    • Ensureprogram equipment is returned to where it belongs and that the programspace is clean and tidy.
    • Whencirculating through common areas, clean or tidy up anything that needs it:garbage, towels, water on floors or counters, open locker doors, etc.
    • If acleaning issue cannot be immediately resolved, report it to the facilitiesteam, supervisor, or cleaning manager.
    • Establishmember connections and relationships and ensure participants are obeying YMCA etiquette on safe equipment use and attitude in the facility.

    Education and Skills Qualifications:

    • CurrentPersonal Training or Group Fitness certification through the YMCA, NovaScotia Fitness Association, canfitpro, CSEP, or other recognizedorganization.
    • CurrentCPR Level C and Intermediate Workplace First Aid certification.
    • 1-2years' experience working in the fitness industry or other form ofmovement instruction (i.e. coach) preferred.
    • Kinesiologydegree (or similar schooling) preferred but not required.
    • Strongcustomer service, with demonstrated ability to build relationships andestablish rapport with clients.
    • Experiencegenerating internal and external leads and building a business/clientele.
    • Experiencemanaging others (staff and/or volunteers) an asset.
    • Strongorganizational and time management skills.
    • Abilityto work evenings and weekends.
    • Bilingualor multilingual is an asset.
    • Excellentverbal and written communication skills.
    • Self-motivated,with strong attention to detail.
    • Intermediateproficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
