Part Time Outreach Worker
Job Summary:
The Outreach Worker is responsible for working in a mostly mobile capacity providing community-based support, housing and service navigation in order to support people who are unhoused and who experience mental health and substance use concerns.
Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, or such other persons as required by the organization, the Outreach Worker must always operate with a 'safety first' mindset and engage in a collaborative approach as they support unhoused community members who are not currently staying at The Lighthouse.
NOTE:
Must have a clean driving abstract and be minimum age 25 for insurance purposes.

Role Responsibilities
- Provide outreach services and provide participants with basic necessities.
- Work with Outreach Workers to use Case Management as a tool to support participants in identifying their unique housing barriers, set goals to achieve, and move toward housing.
- Encourage participants in reaching housing and related goals
- Complete accurate, professional, factual and nonjudgmental incident reports, participant records and case management notes.
Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Social or Human Services or equivalent education experience.
- 2+ years of experience working with those experiencing homelessness and providing housing assistance within a diverse community.
- Experience in providing person centered support.
- Lived experience is an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver's license.
- Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening.
- NVCI, First Aid CPR, and other related trainings considered an asset
Skills Required:
- High standard of integrity, judgment and confidentiality
- Highly organized, thorough and detail oriented, manage several projects at once
- Strong English language skills; ability to speak other languages are an asset
- Solid computer and internet skills; Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Sheets
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and excellent deescalation skills
- Ability to make quick, appropriate, collaborative decisions under competing priorities and situations
- An understanding of harm reduction and an acceptance of the philosophy
- Demonstrated trauma informed support skills
- Experience working independently and as part of a team with a positive attitude.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with culturally diverse participants (including and not limited to a familiarity with First Nations Metis and Inuit culture).
- Working knowledge of community resources including but not limited to health/mental health, counseling, addictions, housing, employment, education, financial, etc,
- Ability to collaborate with community partners to meet the needs of participants.
- Experience with persondirected planning, goal development and implementation of goaldirected plans.
- Creative and willing to explore unique solutions to meet diverse needs.
- Excellent administrative, documentation, and computer skills.
- Effective communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent interpersonal, problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with compassion and sensitivity to the issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions and developmental disabilities, with commitment to a discriminationfree environment.
Assets
- Knowledge of the County Database (HIFIS), SPDAT's, Coordinated Access and the Housing First Program is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program is an asset.
- Training in nonviolent crisis intervention, first aid/CPR, first aid mental health or relevant equivalents is an asset and will be required during the time of employment.
Hours of Work
- Wage is based on experience at $20/hour and 27hr/week
- Work schedule includes evenings and weekends.
