    ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

    This role reports to the Divisional Business Manager, Faculty of Science & Horticulture.

    SUMMARY

    The Student Assistant will work with team members in the Communications area of the Dean's Office in the Faculty of Science and Horticulture (FSH), assisting with a variety of events and marketing projects. The successful candidate will participate in event planning logistics, updating databases, helping with marketing activities and promotional campaigns, produce content for website and social media. The student assistant will proactively research ideas/events for marketing KPU's FSH programs and assist with general office duties, as required.
    The student will work closely with our FSH Communications Coordinator, Communications Specialist, and Administrative Coordinator.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist Communications staff with coordination of faculty events and projects
    • Assist Communications staff with a variety of marketing and promotional campaigns
    • Help coordinate events and research opportunities to promote FSH programs
    • Collect data and update a variety of databases
    • Interact and engage with the KPU students and staff, industry partners, and the general public
    • Act as a student ambassador for the University at external events
    • Update faculty web pages and create content for social media posts.
    • Assist with general office work -- photocopying, filing, organizing files and event materials
    • Help manage volunteers for various faculty events

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Creative, energetic, outgoing and professional attitude
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with others
    • Very comfortable in social settings and engaging with the public
    • Experience creating social media content and posting on various platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
    • Excellent oral and written English
    • Reliable, organized, detail-oriented and meet deadlines
    • Problem-solver who works well independently and as part of a team
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher
    • Experience with social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, as well as scheduling/planning software such as Hootsuite, for example
    • Experience with Adobe software, such as Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, etc. an asset
    • Previous event planning experience an asset
    • Able to comfortably lift 50 pounds/23 kilograms
    • Ability to travel between campuses is required Serving It Right (SIR) certificate an asset (or willing/able to obtain SIR)

    Salary Information

    Student Assistants are paid as per the following:

    Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) – BC Minimum Wage

    One year of post-secondary credits) – BC Minimum Wage plus 8%

    With a post-secondary diploma or degree – BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
