    Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Specialized Inclusion Support Person in Parks and Recreation .     POSITION SUMMARY
    This position is responsible for assisting summer staff in the areas of implementing behaviour management strategies, providing personal care and the development of inclusive program modification to support inclusive programming. This position will work geographically and must be willing to travel between recreation centres throughout out the summer.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support campers that may require extra support and an individualized behavioural plan to support inclusive participation.
  • Provide personal care to participants when needed
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in relation to providing inclusion support.
  • Assist Inclusion Coordinator in developing individual inclusion plans based on specific needs, abilities and interests all with staff.
  • Ensure that all strategies, which are implemented, are compatible with all HRM programs/polices.
  • Provides therapeutic intervention in crisis situation using Crisis Intervention or Therapeutic Intervention and or NVCI strategies, and supports Inclusion Coordinator to provide for effective first response during incidents/emergencies; activates secondary, tertiary emergency response in a timely manner.
  • Assists to ensure a safe and secure program environment for all.
  • This position will work geographically and must be willing to travel between recreation centres throughout the summer.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    Education and Experience:

  • Preferred qualification of minimum enrolment in an undergrad university degree or college diploma in relevant field of study such as Therapeutic Recreation, Child and Youth Studies, Psychology, Education, Social Work, School of Communication Disorders, Kinesiology- and/or equivalent level of training working with children and youth with a disability.
  • Minimum 1-2 years related experience working with individuals of various ages and abilities.
  • Previous training and/or experience in implementing behaviour management strategies considered an asset.
  • Previous training and/or experience providing personal care considered an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
  • Valid certification in CPR/First Aid (CSA Basic) and NVCI (can be provided by the employer).
  • Technical/Job Specific

  • Must have demonstrated interest and knowledge of working with individuals who require additional support. Must be able to effectively provide support to those people who have special needs and have a good knowledge of inclusion strategies, adapting activities, behaviour management and community resources. Must also have the ability to develop and access a variety of rescuers and a working knowledge of recreation program planning to meet the needs of all program participants.
  • Security Clearance Requirements : Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

    Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer's discretion.

    WORK STATUS : Casual/Seasonal; June 24th, August 23rd, 2024

    HOURS OF WORK : Monday to Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm. (hours may vary depending on work location)

    SALARY : Non-Union; $19.20 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

    WORK LOCATION : Various community recreation centers within the Municipality.
