About the Role:
The Program Supervisor works with the Centre Manager to provide leadership and direction for the Centre.

The Program Supervisor plans, organizes, and ensures high quality programs and services consistent with TOOSCS' philosophy, strategic direction, and annual goals and objectives.

Responsibilities include administration, direct service and overseeing a unionized workforce.


Typical hours of work:
This is a regular, full-time position (up to 37.5 hours per week).

The ability to work flexible hours during the TOOSCS' operating hours of
7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday is required since this position provides coverage as needed to ensure continuity of services.

This may include but is not limited to:

staff absences (both planned and unplanned), staff shortages, and Pro-D and camp shifts, as well as providing coverage for the Centre Manager as needed.


The Program Supervisor is required from time to time to work outside of program hours to attend meetings or other events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Leadership:

Program Planning and Management:


  • Ensure that the program meets Centre and licensing regulations, guidelines and standards including, but not limited to:
  • The maintenance and accuracy of all required documentation, including but not limited to: attendance records, reportable and non-reportable incidents, care plans and waitlist/registration documents.
  • The safety and wellbeing of all participants in the programs including the safekeeping, cleanliness, maintenance and proper use of facilities and equipment.
  • Developmentally appropriate program of activities that reflects Licensing Schedule G and encourages the physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social development of children and is based on emergent interests.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all programming, including seasonal camps and Pro-D days.
  • With the Manager, develop, maintain, and administer staff schedules to ensure program quality and compliance with necessary staff ratios.
  • Oversee the planning, organizing and coordinating of resources, equipment and supplies to ensure smooth delivery of programs.
  • Work with staff to develop their areas of shared and individual responsibility within the Centre.
  • Work directly on the floor to mentor, guide and direct best practice in child care (quality, communication and positive attitudes).
  • Monitor the daytoday delivery of all programs at TOOSCS and collaborate with staff and the Centre Manager to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of special events (e.g. end of year party, holiday party, preschool graduation, etc.)
  • Facilitate staff and program planning meetings.

Human Resources:


  • Work with Centre Manager in recruiting, interviewing and selecting staff as needed to establish and maintain a wellbalanced staff team.
  • Lead the onboarding, training and orientation of all new program staff in compliance with the terms of the Collective Agreement.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring and supervision of all program staff.
  • Together with the Centre Manager, complete performance reviews for all program staff in compliance with the terms of the Collective Agreement.
  • Identify professional development needs and opportunities for program staff, and help shape the annual Professional Development curriculum offered to staff.
  • Impart discipline, suspension or dismissal where appropriate in accordance with TOOSC policies and procedures.
  • Provide input into collective bargaining.
  • Attend labourmanagement meetings.
  • Handle select grievances.
  • Attend mediations and arbitrations as an employer witness.

Relationships with Families, Parents and Legal Guardians:


  • Respect confidentiality and behave in a professional and ethical manner always.
  • Ensure that communication with families is collaborative, supportive, appropriate and timely.
  • Be available to communicate with families daily in an open, respectful, and confidential manner.
  • Facilitate regular communications with families regarding programming and nutrition plans, and program outcomes (e.g. in a parent newsletter).
  • Support the Centre Manager in the maintenance and communication of TOOSCS Parent Handbook.
  • Initiate family/staff meetings as required. Other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a child care setting.
  • Responsible Adult certificate (required)
