The opportunity


The Accounting and Operations Analyst will join EY Canada's Partnership Operations Group where they will be responsible for Accounting and Operational support.

Your key responsibilities

Accounting (70% of the role)

  • Perform various accounting activities, including reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts
  • Responsible for the daily monitoring of GL transactions (e.g., ensuring that intercompany transactions are balanced on both entities' books) and making certain the transactions, approvals and required documentation/support are accurate and complete. Any variances are researched and reported for immediate resolution.
  • Ensure journal entries are accurate and posted in a timely manner.
  • Perform ad hoc research and analysis of various accounting transactions, including subsystems, and communicates findings.
  • Resolve confidential and general accounting issues with limited supervision, consistent with established policies and procedures.
  • Respond to accounting requests and inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish and implement basic accounting procedures, and maintain organized filing systems
  • Identify issues that may create potential financial exposure and/or risk to the Firm and escalates accordingly.
  • Resolve confidential and general accounting issues with general supervision, consistent with established policies and procedures.

Operational Excellence (30% of the role)

  • Generate and provide accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, and other relevant documents.
  • Identify and communicate processing and technology issues, internal control weaknesses, and accounting issues, and develop recommended solutions.
  • Participate as a contributor on large special projects, and act as the owner of smaller projects.
  • Perform general administrative duties and ad hoc tasks for the Manager and Director
Please note, this is a hybrid role with in office days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week

  • Utilize available resources both internal firm tools (i.e., Mercury/SAP, various financial reporting tools / resources, ad hoc reports, etc.) and external resources (i.e., Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)) to make independent judgments as to the appropriateness of accounting transactions.
  • Leverage technology and effectively use systems and tools to generate reports, and provide stakeholders with data and analytical support to drive decisionmaking
  • Actively demonstrate confidentiality and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and approach, willingly accept new challenges, and is flexible and accepting of change
  • Effective time management skills and flexibility to work with changing priorities, and the ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fastpaced work environment
  • Strong computer literacy with highly advanced skills in Microsoft Office products, especially with Excel

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 3+ years of progressive financial accounting experience with excellent knowledge of accounting principals
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, attention to detail, with high level of accuracy
  • Proven experience updating processes and approaches related to operational excellence and internal controls

Ideally you will also have:


  • Partnership, personal, and corporate tax knowledge
  • Working towards CPA designation
