The Stollery Children's Hospital Respiratory Therapy program is a multi-site department, providing support to ambulatory, acute care, and critical care environments for pediatric and neonatal patients at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH), Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), and Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) sites.

This is a multisite Clinical Instructor position with the Stollery Respiratory Therapy Department, supporting all areas and sites, with a primary focus on the UAH PICU, inpatient wards and ER programs.

The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Instructor (RTCI) advances education and professional practice for the Respiratory Therapy discipline to support excellence in patient and family centered health care.

The primary focus of this position is to coordinate, develop, and facilitate discipline-specific orientation and education.

The RTCI will provide on-going skills assessment, (re)certification, education, and training to Respiratory Therapy staff and other health care professional staff in all practice areas.

The RTCI will participate in curriculum planning, policy development, service delivery evaluation, and program development. The RTCI is a resource for multidisciplinary staff that require respiratory related education and resources.

The RTCI is a key resource for staff and programs, providing leadership for evidence-based practices, professional standards and ethics, and legislative requirements for the profession.

The incumbent will collaborate with other clinical leaders to determine educational needs and priorities of the Respiratory Therapy Department and fosters multidisciplinary collaboration in order to establish priorities in education and professional practice.

This position may participate in quality improvement initiatives, research projects, and evaluation of equipment.


Description:


As a Clinical Instructor (Technologies), your primary responsibility will be the education and development of staff in our department, as well as other disciplines through orientation and continuing education.

You will promote excellence and consistency in best evidence patient care in clinical practice.

You will provide direct patient care in order to maintain competency and to understand the educational needs of the department.

You will have a role in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, lead and/or participate in research projects, and develop training and educational modules/tools for new equipment/therapy and training requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the applicable College or Association.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy. Successful completion of CBRC exam. Current BLS certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation. 3-5 years recent pediatric/neonatal critical care experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic computer skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

CSRT registration. Current PALS/NRP. Current experience in adult education, designing/delivering education. Experience with high fidelity simulation, scenario design, and debriefing. Recognized simulation training course completion. Previous educator experience. Demonstrated Leadership, clinical instructor skills. Experience as a preceptor. Demonstrated advanced continuing education work. Participation on multidisciplinary committees, quality work groups, and as a change champion.
