Job requirements:
Education:
Degree, Diploma, College, CEGEP or other certification in a recognized ECE program. Consideration may be given for a combination of experience and education. A Director requires a minimum of Level 2.
Credentials:
(certificates, licenses, memberships, courses, etc.)
Early Childhood Education Certificate (ECE) Level 2 or higher
First Aid Certificate/CPR Certificate (or willing to obtain)
Food Handlers Certificate an asset
Will need to attend other required professional development training to maintain ECE Certification (30hour/3years).
Experience:
Minimum 2 year related experience preferred
Work Setting:
Preschool; indoors and out, gym, walks and/or field trips, office work.
Children's Ages:
2.5 to 5 years

Director Duties/Skills include, but are not limited to:
- Effective communication with all staff, parents, Board Members, Licensing and the Province of Nova Scotia
- Maintain/purchase supplies for the school and food
- Send monthly invoices to parents, receive payments, pay bills and monitor cash accounts at the school
- Submit payroll hours for staff and track time off
- Monitor the BAP programs
- Monitor behaviours and actions of both your staff and the children by following all bylaws, policies and procedures of the school
- Attend all Parent Meetings, Board Meetings and Executive Meetings.
Early Childhood Educators Specific Skills:
Knowledge of the Early Learning and Child Care Act; Knowledge of Early Learning and Child Care Regulations; Establish guidelines for behaviour; Develop and implement programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children; Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest; provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity; Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits; Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural issues and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor; Support the Program policy of how to support children's social development and self-regulation skills; Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children; Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or issues with parents and other staff members; Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
Discuss progress and plans of children at staff meetings; Prepare snacks, serve and sit with children during snack/mealtime and arrange rooms or furniture for special activities, cleaning, lunch and rest periods; Submit written observations on children twice yearly to early childhood educators or supervisors.
Additional Skills:
Maintain equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties; Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records; Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and plans of children; Supervise and co-ordinate indoor and outdoor children's activities that encourage energetic play.
Hours of employment are:
Monday to Friday - 7:30 to 5:30. Your shift will be 8 hours within this timeframe.

$26.79-$34.54 per hour
