Contribute to the strategic development of the Labour Relations function by developing a progressive, business focused employee and labour relations strategy that meets the current and future needs of Black & McDonald.

    Under the guidance of the Project Director and Human Resources Manager, the Labour Relations Specialist will support both management and employees with a special focus on labour and employee relations, WSIB claims management as well as compliance with other legislative requirements.

    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advise, coordinate and track grievance / labour issues for all project based operations to ensure prompt resolution where possible.
  • Facilitate and coordinate various HR related processes at the project level, in accordance with Company standards and policies.
  • Draft professional level correspondence in the conducting of daily duties and work-related communications.
  • Monitor grievances for trends and make recommendations regarding policy in an effort to reduce disputes and increase the overall health of the project operation.
  • Develop and foster positive relationships with applicable trade union partners to ensure positive discussions can take place under adverse circumstances.
  • Under the guidance of the Sr. HR Manager, arrange / negotiate special labour arrangements were required to facilitate business needs.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel, as required.
  • Advise management regarding legislative requirements from a unioized labour and employment prospective, as required.
  • Coordinate the early and safe return to work program to ensure legislative compliance, reduce cost, and minimize operational and employee impact by supporting successful outcomes.
  • Elevate disputes to the Sr. Human Resources Manager when initial local discussions are unable to facilitate a suitable resolution.
  • Fulfil reporting requirements to various provincial government agencies, where necessary
  • Conduct and coordinate workplace investigations, as necessary.
  • Advise and support management in facilitating the corrective action program in accordance with company policy and collective bargaining requirements.
  • Support and assist the Sr. Human Resource Manager, and the broader operation, as required.
  • It will be necessary to participate in upgrading courses from time to time to keep abreast of changing policy, technology, and growth to prepare for future responsibilities within Black & McDonald Limited.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-Secondary education in related field is considered an asset.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2-3 years working in a unionized environment, particularly in a construction setting, and is familiar with general labour relations matters will be considered an asset
  • 2-3 years' experience coordinating WSIB claims management programs will be considered an asset.
  • 2-3 years' experience in an HR role will be considered an asset
  • SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Intermediate experience and proficiency of Microsoft Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required
  • Willing to travel
  • Willing and able to work in the Windsor Ontario area
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License
