POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Community Services Team Leader, the Community Prevention Worker is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of culturally appropriate Community Prevention supports. The position provides Community Prevention services in one of our five (5) communities and urban areas with an emphasis on education and Reporting to the Service Navigator Team Leader, the Agency Navigator is the first point of contact for Relations, visitors, and callers entering or connecting with SCFSS. This role ensures communications are handled in a respectful, culturally safe, and timely manner while directing inquiries to appropriate staff and teams. The Agency Navigator maintains high standards of organization, confidentiality, and professionalism and supports efficient communication and administrative coordination across SCFSS.
As a member of the SCFSS team, the Agency Navigator supports the collective Call to Action and contributes to advancing SCFSS's strategic directions of Protection to Prevention and Infrastructure Alignment.
OVERVIEW OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive and assess incoming calls and visitors, triaging based on urgency and directing to appropriate staff or teams
- Use de‑escalation techniques and trauma‑informed approaches when handling concerns from Relations and the public
- Collaborate with Community Navigators to ensure accurate information is shared and documented
- Provide information and linkages to SCFSS programs, services, and community resources
- Coordinate day‑to‑day office duties, including room bookings, mail and courier processing, photocopying, event packages, and written correspondence
- Maintain a highly organized filing and records management system aligned with SCFSS and FOIPPA requirements
- Support internal databases (e.g., ICM) and maintain accurate logs of calls, transfers, mail, and documentation
- Uphold cultural safety in all interactions by practicing syilx and nłeʔkepmx protocols, values, and trauma‑informed approaches
- Ensure Elders are appropriately engaged and consulted where relevant
- Participate in community events and provide accurate information about SCFSS services to the public
- Track, maintain, and support financial processes including purchase orders, reports, and administrative documentation
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics and departmental reporting
- Act as a positive role model to team members, clients, and community members
- Ensure security and confidentiality of records and data in compliance with FOIPPA and SCFSS policies
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures
- Ensure regular reporting requirements are met for Team Leader, Executive Director, and funding bodies
- Support generation and maintenance of monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics and reports
- Participate in team meetings, training, and organizational initiatives; support onboarding and mentorship of new hires when requested
- Maintain and develop knowledge and skills through professional development and training opportunities
- Develop, monitor, and update an annual Personal Development Plan and Individual Work Plan aligned with SCFSS's strategic priorities
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to receive, assess, and triage incoming calls and in‑person inquiries using professionalism, discretion, and trauma‑informed de‑escalation techniques
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and a strong understanding of nłeʔkepmx and syilx cultural values, protocols, and traditional approaches
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, including experience coordinating office operations, managing documentation, and maintaining efficient filing systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort using databases or case management systems (e.g., ICM, EMHware), with the ability to learn new platforms quickly
- Clear Criminal Record check and Ministry of Children and Family Development Prior Contact Check required before commencement of employment.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver's license without restrictions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Diploma in Business Administration, Office Administration, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum three years of administrative and/or dispatch experience
- Minimum of one year of experience working with Indigenous children, young people, families, and communities
- Experience with ICM, or other case management systems (or willingness to train)
- Demonstrated knowledge and professional and personal practice of nłeʔkepmx and syilx traditional values, cultural practice, and protocols is an asset
