The Opportunity
We are looking for a Junior Lab Technician to join our team at the Sturgeon Terminal. This is a 6-month contract position.
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will work independently completing routine laboratory tasks in an established time frame as well as working on projects requiring detailed reporting and observations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct quality control testing on process samples of crude oil
- Provide recommendations based on test data and observations
- Lab housekeeping duties, stocking laboratory supplies, and general cleaning of equipment, work area, sample management, and waste disposal
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and calibration on lab instrumentation
- Efficiently and accurately capture and report data
- Contribute to production of laboratory documentation related to safety, quality and training
- Follow and maintain all laboratory procedures
- Follows all HS&E requirements in the performance of this position's responsibility
Skills:
- Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation with enhanced troubleshooting skills
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
- Strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environment
Education:
- Must have complete understanding of all ASTM test methods performed
- Education in Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or B.Sc.
- Knowledge of wet chemistry, petroleum and water laboratory techniques is an asset
Experience:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Relevant laboratory experience (preferably petroleum industry)
- Ability to respond and adjust to changing priorities and workload
- Valid class 5 driver's license is required
