Your opportunity:

Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is a non-profit organization that delivers an objectives-based program for massively scalable, seed-stage, science
- and technology-based companies. Its mission is to accelerate the commercialization of science for the betterment of humankind. CDL is a global program with sites at Oxford, Paris, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Halifax, Atlanta, Seattle, Wisconsin, Estonia and Berlin. The program's objective-setting process enhances the performance of technical founders who learn from the insights of experienced entrepreneurs, increasing their probability of success.


As the Engagement Manager, you will work collaboratively with the Director of Engagement and the Rotman School Advancement office to achieve philanthropic and partnership goals to support the operationsof the program.

This will require managing relationships with existing stakeholders on behalf of CDL-Global, supporting the Rotman School Advancement office and the Director of Engagement in securing new donors and sponsors and advancing the program's strategic long-term funding priorities.

In addition to your primary responsibilities, you may be assigned to special projects or allocated to support CDL Site operations.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Developing and implementing plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities
  • Managing donor relations
  • Developing marketing/communications strategies that support fundraising campaigns and programs
  • Conducting complex analysis and evaluative techniques to determine trends/patterns and make recommendations to senior university officials
  • Producing complex donor reports
  • Analyzing the impact of stewardship programming on fundraising initiatives
  • Serving as a resource to others by providing (nonsupervisory) administrative guidance

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Communications or other related field; or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years recent and directly related business development, stakeholder relations, or account management experience
  • Demonstrated experience producing compelling communications tools for use in development, including cases for support, proposals, presentations and collateral materials is required
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, partnership development, recruitment, and/or sales
  • Significant customer service experience is required including confidence working with senior executives and angel investors
  • Proven ability to build relationships and foster collaboration
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and listening skills required
  • Superior interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills with the ability to interact with people at various levels
  • Demonstrated professionalism, tact, and maturity in handling highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Strong teamoriented work ethic with willingness and ability to work independently and autonomously
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work effectively in a large, complex, dynamic and sophisticated environment
