What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • ensure the ministry is prepared to respond to actual and potential emergency situations in a coordinated and effective manner, consistent with relevant legislation
- support the ministry's response to transportation emergencies or events interrupting time critical services as identified in the ministry's Continuity of Operations Program
- support the development of emergency response capacity in the transportation sector
- manage relationships with associations, municipalities, First Nations, non-governmental organizations and the private sector


How do I qualify?:


Emergency Management Knowledge:


  • You have demonstrated knowledge of emergency management (including continuity of operations) principles and best practices related to planning, response, training and exercises.
  • You understand relevant provincial and federal legislation, regulations and policies related to emergency management.

Project Management:


  • You have knowledge of project, portfolio and program management methodologies and leading practices.
  • You have demonstrated project management, planning and organizational skills to manage the planning, development and coordination of training to achieve the ministry's mandate.
  • You can plan, prioritize, balance and control diverse, concurrent activities and ensure timely results.
  • Your project management skills and attention to detail allow you to drive projects from concept through implementation with little oversight, ensuring that projects are on budget and on time.

Relationship Management:


  • You have highly developed interpersonal and consultative skills.
  • You have knowledge of emergency management issues and practices related to transportation stakeholders.
  • You have the ability to manage relations with provincial ministries, federal organizations, municipalities, First Nations, nongovernmental organizations and the private sector.
  • You can act as representative for the office with internal and external stakeholders, senior officials and contiguous jurisdictions.
  • Your customer service skills and political acuity allow you to build credible and professional partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You can form and lead project teams to collaborate in a meaningful way with a diverse network of internal and external stakeholders.

Communication Skills:


  • You have demonstrated oral and written communication skills to develop briefing notes, reports, presentations, correspondence, etc.
  • You have research and analytical skills to determine best practices, options, strategic opportunities and risks.
