    Description

    Position: Backend Software Engineer

    Job Location: Toronto - Hybrid

    Job Type: Permanent

    Join Our Client, a leading software innovation hub, in the exciting role of Senior Backend Software Engineer We are seeking a highly skilled professional to be part of our integrations team, contributing to the design and operation of backend services and APIs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and maintain web applications using
    • Occasionally implement front-end tasks using Angular.
    • Enhance and maintain database schemas and queries, focusing on MySQL and MongoDB.
    • Write and improve SQL queries and scripts.
    • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
    • Build reusable code and libraries for future use.
    • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to identify and prioritize features and functionality.
    • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other team members.
    • Implement microservices and event-driven architecture when necessary.
    • Champion best practices, driving change and continuous improvement.

    Top 3 Non-Negotiables:

    1. Expertise: Must be a hands-on coder with strong experience in Angular experience for front-end tasks is desired but not required.
    2. Database Proficiency: Critical experience with MySQL and MongoDB, with a preference for MongoDB. Must be able to write and improve SQL queries and scripting.
    3. PHP Experience: Strongly preferred, as there are PHP components that need work.

    Nice to Haves:

    • Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture.
    • Experience with unit testing.
    • Familiarity with Sequelize ORM (a TypeScript and ORM for various databases including Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, and SQL Server).

    Preferred Experience:

    • Experience working in start-ups, small product companies, or small teams within large tech/product companies.
    • Experience improving product stability and performance in systems with high user demand (e.g., 2.5 million users).
    • Ability to refactor and improve existing systems and processes for better efficiency and reliability.
