The
Manager of Volunteer Program, reporting to the Director of Fund Development, is directly responsible for researching, revising, and developing adjustments to the volunteer program at Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM).


Using their considerable skills and experience, the Manager will create research-driven strategies designed to grow the Program while optimizing volunteer engagement and retention.

With over 200 volunteers, the Manager is a strategic partner to support the growth of the Program during a period of organizational transformation.


Manager of Volunteer Program, key role responsibilities:

Research and Development

  • Through both internal and thirdparty evaluators, conduct analysis of the current volunteer program. Through consultation with staff and external organizations, research and identify programmatic opportunities.
  • Evaluate programmatic opportunities, prepare reports and present solutions for consideration.

Lead revisions, implementation and evaluation
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of volunteer program success, including but not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, manage, coordinate, monitor and evaluate all aspects of the HSLM volunteer program.
  • Promote a culture of volunteerism.
  • Determine short and long term tactics and strategies to achieve program and organizational goals.
  • Work with HSLM staff to identify and evaluate the need for volunteer support for programs and services.
  • Oversee volunteer recruitment and selection.
  • Develop and coordinate volunteer training and orientation.
  • In collaboration with staff, coordinate and schedule volunteers to participate in programs and activities.
  • Develop and coordinate volunteer recognition, retention and evaluation activities.
  • Prepare and deliver written and verbal presentations.
  • Develop, manage and ensure adherence to department program budgets.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of best practices and trends in volunteer management.
  • Produce and maintain accurate reports, records and files.
  • Participate in supervision, evaluation, training and other meetings as required.
  • Coordinate and lead organizational communication to volunteers through newsletters and social media.
  • Monitor volunteer performance and compliance with roles, responsibilities, policies and agreements.
  • Address volunteer complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, support, resources and tools to departments who are utilizing volunteers.
  • Lead and foster an environment of teamwork and cooperation
  • Participate in public relations and promotional activities as required

Job requirements:


  • Completion of post secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution volunteer management, human resources, business preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the role.
  • Minimum of two year's experience in volunteer management or similar experience
  • Effective leadership skills, with experience and focus on supervision, mentoring and motivation of employees and volunteers.
  • Experience with database management, preferably volunteer management software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including digital communications, copywriting, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, both online and in person.
  • Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English is required.

Essential duties and working conditions:


  • This role requires occasional evening and weekend shifts, occasionally with limited notice.
  • Must be comfortable working around all species of domesticated animals.
  • Employment is conditional upon maintaining a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Hours of work:

This is a full-time, contract position working 37.5 hours weekly. This contract concludes on June 28, 2024.


Location:

624 Clarke Rd and 15 Pacific Court London, Ontario. This role has some hybrid flexibility.


Terms of Employment:
One-year contract

Salary:
$40,000 - $55,000
