What this role is all about:

The Manager, Commercial Credit contributes to the provision of service excellence to Gulf & Fraser's members by leading and directing commercial credit operations, adjudications and assisting in its ongoing development.

The incumbent collaborates with departments and commercial team to provide support and direction to ensure efficient and effective commercial credit operations in an ongoing effort to providing an overall positive member experience.

Reporting to the AVP, Credit, this position plays a key role in the credit approval process for commercial operations.


What you'll do:


  • Provides advice and guidance on large, complex loans or other commercial credit issues, and provides technical direction as required.
  • Monitors processing and loan underwriting methods to ensure quality, delinquency control, overdrafts, policy and documentation requirements and requirements set out by regulators & auditors are satisfied.
  • Coordinates the dissemination of loan policies and procedures; ensures employees follow loan underwriting policies and any policy deviations are corrected.
  • Oversees monthly audits and conducts random reviews of commercial credit files.
  • Oversees, coordinates preparation of and verifies a variety of regular and adhoc reports.
  • Manages the credit process to meet quality and target turnaround timelines as well as manages accurate and timely risk assessments of existing loans. Assesses credit practices for evolving needs and recommends policy and procedure improvements to support productivity and efficiency of commercial lending program.
  • Collaborates with branches and partner departments on a variety of initiatives such as campaigns, projects and training programs.
  • Provides mentorship to employees on commercial creditrelated topics.

A little about your qualifications:


  • Postsecondary business degree or diploma
  • Minimum 79 years' progressive experience in commercial credit
  • At least 5 years' experience in underwriting
  • Experience with a wide variety of commercial lending, including construction, development, industrial, income and balance sheet lending.
  • Equivalent combination of the above may be appropriate
  • Ability to determine creditworthiness (commercial/business lending) for shortand longterm debt repayment
  • Proactive and collaborative approach
