is currently seeking a GIS co-op summer student with excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude and a strong commitment to safety to join our Fiber Team.


The GIS co-op student will have a background in digital GIS records and mapping, along with excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude and a strong commitment to safety to join our Fibre Optic Network team.

Reporting to the Fibre Operations Manager, the GIS co-op student will be responsible for providing GIS support services related to the preparation, updating, and analysis of our digital mapping system and associated databases that are used to record the details of our fiber optic telecommunications network in London and St.

Thomas, Ontario.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Prepare, maintain, update and manipulate and analyze the digital mapping and associated databases of the fiber optic network.
  • Assist with preparation of street address reports and fibre records reports that are created by analyzing, and importing and exporting data into and out of the ESRI GIS software tools.
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of records related to drawings, manuals, business processes, and other documentation that is archived in the GIS software tool.
  • Prepare boundary area maps for the network construction areas and validate "homes passed" counts for the residential and business units within the boundary area.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Post-Secondary education in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Some experience and knowledge with developing GIS databases and maintaining GIS data with ESRI and/or Intergraph/Hexagon software.
  • Working experience with GIS, ArcMap, ArcFM is preferable.
  • Experience with presentation and graphic design tools for the production of professional quality mapping output products.
  • Experience with Excel and importing and exporting files between GIS tools and Excel.
  • Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
