The company requires an energetic, motivated, and career-minded Sheet Metal Fabrication Estimator to help the sales team and programmers execute our growth strategy.

The position will employ various estimating skills related to metal fabrication operations.

Working closely with the business development team, the programmers provide required job estimations to deliver value solutions to our clients.


The Estimator will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects, including materials and labor.

They will maintain good relationships with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors, manage their costing database and establish unit costs, labor rates, and productivity factors.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide technical support and advice to customers by developing solutions that align with their requirements and budget

Interpret and analyze mechanical drawings and specifications and recommend design solutions

Make independent decisions on problems and demonstrate a firm understanding of methods necessary to carry out complex assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures

Actively engage with other members of the company to continuously strive to improve processes, create efficiencies and reduce costs

Assess the cost-effectiveness of products and projects and track actual costs relative to the quote estimates as manufacturing orders are completed


Qualifications and Experience:

Experience within a custom steel fabrication and welding environment

Minimum of a secondary technical education and/or 3-5 years of relevant work experience

Experience in Lean principles, quality, process and product engineering

Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative in meeting commitments and deadlines

Must be organized, dedicated and detail-oriented

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and non-technical information at all skill levels of the organization

Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills

Able to work independently and in a team environment

Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook as well as engineering tools such as AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks


Additional Preferred Competencies:

Prior experience utilizing estimating software packages

Experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks)

Ability and motivation to negotiate "win-win" outcomes with our customers
