We are recruiting for a Manager, Health, Safety and Environment to champion and provide leadership within our Health, Safety and Environment Programs.

About Our Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Health, and Safety Services, the Manager, HSE provides health and safety services to multiple levels of management and staff within the department's structure.

This includes consultation and support services; monitoring, auditing, evaluation, and reporting services; and leading corporate health and safety initiatives to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.


Primary Accountabilities:


In this role you will:

  • Deliver outcomes by managing others and working within established systems to provide HSE consultative, advisory, and support services throughout the Department based on organizational needs and provincial accountabilities. Examples include interpretation of legislation, advisor to JOHSE Committees, delivery/formulation of training, liaising with regulators.
  • Lead and/or support the development and review of corporate health and safety policies, procedures, and programs. Demonstrate and communicate the Department's commitment to HSE by providing advice and support within the corporate structure on the various corporate policies, programs, and initiatives. Deliver prescribed outcomes by working within established strategic planning systems and HSE requirements.
  • Provide research and recommendations on HSE trends so that appropriate corporate policies, procedures, programs, and corrective actions can be implemented.
  • Ensure appropriate quality and risk management processes are followed, identify shortcomings, and suggest improvements in current compliance processes, systems, and procedures within assigned unit and/or discipline. Regularly review and report on the effectiveness of operations.
  • Conduct or lead HSE audits to measure compliance with legislated health and safety standards in government workplaces, including audit analysis, preparation of audit reports, and providing recommendations on the audit results to the Department.
  • Deliver on smallscale or mediumscale projects by working within an established program management plan. Develop and/or deliver plans for internal communication with guidance from senior colleagues and team members.
  • Advise and act as a resource to various HSE Committees on health and safety matters.

Qualifications and Experience:


The success of this position requires a combination of self-motivation, strong leadership and a genuine interest and determination in fulfilling the departmental goals and priorities relative to Health, Safety and Environment.


You possess exceptional communication (written/verbal) and relationship building skills to effectively work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve departmental objectives.

The Manager must be a problem solver and innovator who generates, promotes, and implements new ideas, and resolves concerns arising from the resulting changes these ideas would produce.

You will be responsible to promote a safe and healthy work culture where idea generation and innovation are encouraged, while still ensuring overall program compliance.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.


Equivalency:

Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:

  • A related diploma and eight (8) years of related experience and a Professional designation of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent.
