Every Bite Matters is a youth focused training and social inclusion employment program that addresses the many needs within the community; it is a food industry job training program, providing unemployed and out of school youth the skills and opportunities to successfully enter this sector of the working world.

Also, Every Bite Matters will address the social isolation that many in the elderly population are facing, providing opportunities for youth and the elderly to connect over a nutritious meal.

Every Bite Matters will educate both populations on healthy eating, nutrition and Canada's Food Guide.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Deliver programming/services in accordance with 360°kids' Strategic Plan and funding expectations.
  • Ensure key relationships with community partners and others having impact on the program are sustained.
  • Work with 360 ̊staff to ensure program(s) success while positively contributing to organizational needs.
  • Assist in the development and cofacilitation of appropriate program materials for atrisk youth.
  • Conduct program intakes, determine eligibility and makes recommendations based on youth needs.
  • Act as a positive role model, mentor, and support for youth as they learn new skills.
  • Coordinate youth action plan activities, monitor progress, and keep client case notes.
  • Build a positive referral base with community partners, including marketing and outreach to employers and partners.
  • Assist youth in accessing various community programs as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring job placements; liaise with employers, youth, and other team members regarding progress.
  • Develop foster and maintain relationships with partnering seniors' organizations (i.e. HYI, CHATS).
  • Assist with development of nutritious, safe and appealing menus for participants to prepare and serve to community elderly population.
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of Food Services departmental standards and implementation of quality standards in cooking methods, presentation techniques, portion control and retention of nutrients.
  • Support execution of seniors' lunch program at both the community and participant levels.
  • Assist with preparation and participant supervision of the preparation and cooking of food items, ensuring menu meets needs of the elderly with nutritious, safe, appealing, and properly flavored food.
  • Complete all mandatory recording and reporting including daily documentation and statistical data collection.
  • Participates in regular supervision meetings and performance appraisal meetings on a semiannual basis. Attends training workshops and relevant conferences that pertain to the role.

Working conditions:


  • Work initially at Home Base, Richmond Hill Community HUB until (anticipated) June 2023 when EBM training kitchen currently under development at Yonge Street/Davis Drive, New market is ready to for use; as well as at a variety of public locations.
  • Transport of clients as the need arises, maintain adequate liability coverage ($2,000,000) at all times on personal vehicle.
  • Contact with at risk and homeless youth, which may include working under unpredictable
circumstances and with potentially challenging clients.

  • Standing, sitting at regular intervals. Incumbent is able to shift position at regular intervals. Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 lbs.

QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS REQUIRED:


  • Postsecondary education in mental health/social services field of study (e.g. Child and Youth Work, Addictions and Mental Health, Social Worker, Social Service Worker, Psychology) and/or Food Services Coordination, Nutrition, Health Sciences, or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
  • Experience working in a Commercial Kitchen an asset, at a leadership/supervisory level preferred Experience working with vulnerable or street involved youth/youth with mental health/addictions barriers.
  • Passion for cooking and skilled in meal planning and preparation and Counselling experience in terms of life skills and behavior management.
  • Exceptional relationship building skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
  • Motivated, has a strong work ethic, empathetic, and must be able to work with a team.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to be adaptable with a flexible approach taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that promote positive team building, negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Will possess a broad knowledge of community resources and the ability to strongly advocate for clients and professional referrals.
