Description

The VP Operations leads the Canadian agency's operations function and is responsible for overseeing all activity and service functions specific to Canada ports and marine terminals.

This position partners closely with the Logistics department.

This is a highly visible position that directs daily operations, and is a significant interface with suppliers, regulatory agencies, and government agencies.

This position is also responsible for proactively managing internal and external communication, and dealing with operational challenges as they arise.

There is a strong cost focus expected, as well as business enablement, to ensure that our operations support our commercial imperatives.


The VP Operations is a key leader in the agency and is therefore expected to proactively collaborate across functions and locations, drive and participate in projects, and role-model the values of the company to all employees.

  • Monitor cargo operations while vessel in port, communicate and liaise with the terminals to ensure maximum efficiency on production.
  • Evaluate processes, identify risks, develop solutions, and implement improvements related to Operations.
  • Understand the logistics aspects of the business and contribute toward the optimization of processes and resources with the Logistics department.
  • Meeting the company KPI targets for Operations.
  • Port performance, waiting time, fully automatic PO.
  • Monitor the setup of vessels for arrival and departure.
  • Ensure arrangements for pilots, tugs and lines handlers, Coast Guard and CBSA are made.
  • Oversee vessel arrangements, such as Life Boat testing, Engine Immobilization, Crew Changes/Doctor visits etc.
  • Process Vendor invoices, ensure accuracy and rates are as outlined in the contracts.
  • Interact with CN Rail on a variety of issues.
  • Facilitating and providing guidance and coaching to management teams in Operations matters, directing staff on Operations functions.
  • Monitors and ensure compliance with shipping regulations. Directs the provision of pertinent material and support, including ship manuals and HAZMAT regulations
  • Implements and directs all programs related to oversight of vessels, masters, and crew members while within jurisdiction, including the provision of crisis support such as Med Evacs and downed vessels.
  • Develops and executes comprehensive operational plans and programs to support the achievement of company revenue and vessel/port services objectives.

Requirements:


  • Academic education: Bachelor's degree in Maritime studies or equivalent required.
  • Certification: Master License or Chief Officer License/Certification is a plus
  • Experience: in the shipping/transportation industry at executive level in Operations or equivalent is preferred.
