Detailed Overview:


The Activity Worker/Community Care Aide provides services to the Mobile Day Programs for Older Adults by implementing and participating in recreation and/or social activities, provides demonstrations, promotes client participation in activities, provides feedback, and, in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist/Recreation Coordinator, adapts and modifies established activities to meet the special needs of clients.

In addition, assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts and transfers, toileting and grooming, and assists with client intake including inputting client information into relevant databases.


Responsibilities:


  • Implements and participates in recreational and/or social activities designed to meet the needs of clients, providing demonstrations as required. In collaboration with the Recreation Therapist/Recreation Coordinator, adapts and modifies established activities to meet the special needs of clients.
  • Participates in the development of activities by providing input to senior positions.
  • Promotes client participation in activities and provides feedback regarding the performance and progress of clients.
  • Observes clients and reports unsafe conditions and behavioural, physical and/or cognitive changes.
  • Sets up furnishings, equipment and supplies for activities; cleans/sterilizes in accordance with established procedures.
  • Accompanies clients on scheduled outings related to the Mobile Day Program.
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as statistics, progress reports, activity preparation reports, observation reports and client activity profiles.
  • Provides personal care to clients by assisting with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts and transfers, toileting and grooming.
  • Demonstrates personal care methods and provides basic information to clients in relation to personal care.
  • Performs limited food preparation such as heating prepared food, making tea, coffee, toast, etc.
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment, tools, and materials related to activities.
  • Performs general word processing and data entry functions such as inputting client information into relevant computerized systems, maintaining relevant registers, and typing from rough draft or general instruction, including correspondence, reports, and documents.
  • Assists with client intake by performing duties such as obtaining client information and completing documentation required. Schedules and confirms clients for appointments, and maintains waiting lists.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
