Position Summary


We are looking for a Customs & Compliance Intern to join us for a 4 month period, starting in May, 2023.

This position will be based out of one of our two offices: Toronto, ON or Florenceville, NB.


Reporting to the Manager, Customs & Compliance, the Trade Compliance Intern will effectively support the Trade Compliance functions within McCain.

The individual will work closely with the Customs & Compliance Team, Customer Solutions, International Commercial/Supply Chain teams, as well as our Trade Compliance Consulting Partners to document and organize our Import and Export Trade Compliance Activities.


The Team


The Customs & Compliance team manages all imports into Canada and the United States, as well as supporting customs activities for our export volume, to maintain compliance.


What You Will Be Working On

  • Document Free Trade Agreement Policies
  • Develop FTA matrix (cheat sheet)
  • Organize export fta's on one drive for record keeping
  • Document Rules of origin for key HS codes
  • Assist with Advanced customs Rulings
  • HS

  • Update Duty Rate Matrix
  • Organize and Update Export Country Sheet document
  • Transfer Price Corrections
  • Assist with Import and Export Compliance Program Development
  • Risk Assessment
  • Sanctions
  • Record Keeping
  • Audits (CFIA, USDA/CTPAT)
  • Help Develop Customs Reporting

What You Will Learn

What You Need to be Successful

  • Currently enrolled in College / University internship program specialized in International Business or Trade
  • Detail oriented
  • Problem Solving Skills
  • Exhibits sense of urgency
  • Creative and flexible: able to evaluate opportunities and respond quickly to changing requirements
  • Proven ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) & relationship management skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex process/system problems using analytical and statistical models
  • Experience with SAP and MS tools (i.e. Power BI, Azure data lake, PowerApps, etc.)
