R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is currently seeking an Intermediate Contract Administrator to join our Field Services Team.

The ideal applicant will have 5-8 years of demonstrated Contract Administration (CA) experience in water and wastewater construction projects; both linear transmission (sewers and watermains, road restorations) construction and facility (pumping stations, sewage pumping stations, and treatment facilities) construction.


This role requires an individual with an extensive, multi-discipline construction background as well as an in depth understanding of consultant roles and responsibilities.

Understanding how construction projects impact clients, operations personnel, and the public, and how these impacts can be mitigated is important to us.


We are looking for an individual who will be a key part of the project team during construction - leading the inspector, liaising with the designers, and coordinating the support personnel.

The ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior CA and inspection personnel would be an asset.

The position will be based out of the following office locations: Orangeville / Mississauga / Hamilton.


Role Specifics
Reporting to a senior manager, this individual is responsible for administrative oversight of assigned construction projects, with the following typical duties:

  • Administer the contract between the Owner and the Contract per the terms of the contract;
  • Coordinate the review / return of shop drawings and other required submittals;
  • Investigate and respond to contractor RFIs;
  • Prepare and issue SI's and RFQ's to the Contractor;
  • Review and comment on constructability aspects of design drawings;
  • Assist in contract negotiation and award processes;
  • Coordinate special inspections by subconsultants or specialist inspectors
  • Liaise with the Owner, Contractor, and other project stakeholders as required;
  • Organize and chair project progress meetings;
  • Visit sites regularly to stay abreast of construction developments;
  • Review contractor progress payment draws/proper invoices and issue payment verification / certification;
  • Review/assess contractor change requests and claims and negotiate if/as required;
  • Review project as built information;
  • Various other duties as required or assigned
Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required to facilitate administration and inspection support requirements of assigned projects.

A valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle are mandatory to commute to project locations.

  • Ideally, 58 years of civil construction, and water/wastewater treatment facilities, and client relationship management experience
  • A diploma or education in a related discipline
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Sharepoint
  • Ability to understand and interpret Contract Documents and Drawings
  • Knowledge of Construction materials, building trades, means and methods of the construction process, project scheduling, and the contractual obligations of subcontractors, suppliers, and manufacturers through the construction process
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations, along with OTC Book 7 and traffic control measures
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Determination to set and manage priorities to meet all deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Selfmotivated and ability to work detached from base support staff
