Position: Senior Storage and Virtualization Specialist

Reporting To: Platform Services Manager

Location: Surrey, B.C. (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Contract
• $75 - $80/hour

We are seeking a highly skilled Storage and Virtualization Specialist to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our storage infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability. You will leverage your extensive experience in storage technologies to drive strategic initiatives and enhance our data management capabilities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize storage configurations, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement best practices in data management and data security. The Senior Storage and Virtualization Specialist is accountable for all aspects of storage and virtualization services, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure operations. This role leads day-to-day operational execution, provides subject matter expertise, and supports modernization, capacity planning, and continuous improvement initiatives across the environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement enterprise-level storage solutions, ensuring high availability and scalability across our infrastructure.
• Administer and optimize SAN, NAS, and object storage systems, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define storage requirements and provide technical guidance on best practices.
• Monitor storage performance metrics and conduct capacity planning to anticipate future needs.
• Implement data protection strategies, including backups, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex storage issues, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal business impact.
• Document and maintain operational procedures, architecture diagrams, and capacity planning reports.
• Design, deploy, and manage storage solutions, ensuring optimal performance and reliability across our data centers.
• Implement and manage data backup (CommVault) and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard critical information.
• Conduct regular audits and assessments of storage resources to ensure compliance with security protocols and data governance policies.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for storage-related issues, serving as a subject matter expert.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all storage and virtualization-related issues at the site.
• Authorized to act on all matters relating to the daily operation of storage and virtualization services.
• Ensure infrastructure, systems, and processes meet defined performance, availability, and reliability requirements.
• Oversee configuration and management of IT infrastructure supporting data retention, security, business continuity, disaster recovery, and information risk management.

VMware & Infrastructure Services

• Responsible for VMware Infrastructure services, including design and development lifecycle, configuration and provisioning, capacity and performance management, modernization and optimization, security, maintenance, and operational accountability.
• Meet all technical requirements related to storage and virtualization technologies in support of both operational and deployment environments.
• Research, design, plan, and coordinate server infrastructure upgrades, enhancements, improvements, and new service deployments.

Project Delivery & Continuous Improvement

• Participate in operational and business-critical projects through scoping, planning, execution, and implementation.
• Analyze service incidents and problems, identify risks, recommend improvements, and implement solutions.
• Recognize systemic issues, develop remediation plans, and oversee corrective actions within the assigned specialty.
• Stay current on technology trends and emerging solutions, communicating relevant advancements to appropriate stakeholders.

Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting

• Provide guidance on infrastructure health checks and performance and capacity reporting.
• Prepare, maintain, and update detailed documentation, including infrastructure diagrams, standards and policies, and operational procedures.
• Ensure documentation reflects current and future-state architecture.

Incident & Service Management

• Take ownership of all assigned tickets and drive them to resolution, including research, troubleshooting, and vendor escalation as required.
• Enforce and follow Compugen ITSM policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for planned changes and incident resolution.
• Deliver expert-level support to the IT Operations team.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to team members.
• Support the development of internal certification criteria and training curriculum.
• Provide guidance and direction to other team members as assigned.
• Work collaboratively with team members to achieve shared goals and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Governance & Communication

• Report regularly to the Platform Services Manager, providing updates, insights, and recommendations, and seeking direction as needed.
• Ensure alignment with organizational goals, operational priorities, and service commitments.

Skills & Qualifications

Required And Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in NetApp storage administration, with a deep understanding of SAN/NAS technologies.
• Expertise in storage protocols such as iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, and SMB.
• Strong experience with backup solutions CommVault and disaster recovery methodologies.
• Proficient in scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python for automation and management tasks.
• Experience with cloud storage solutions and hybrid environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools like SolarWinds.
• Strong expertise in VMware virtualization platforms and enterprise storage technologies.
• Proven experience in infrastructure operations, capacity planning, and modernization.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working within ITSM frameworks (ITIL preferred).
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and influence technical teams.
