What can I expect to do in this role?: Duties will include:

  • Providing legal and operational support for various projects led by the Office of Strategic Initiatives
  • Liaising with local Crown Attorneys' Offices, police, Victims and Vulnerable Persons Division staff and other justice stakeholders as required to implement and support divisional tools and technologies to increase effectiveness and efficiency of criminal case processing
  • Maintaining and strengthening technical skills to communicate and work effectively with computer technology and databases made available to professional staff
  • Keeping informed on office/regional/divisional/provincial initiatives, protocols and directives and implementing them in a manner that ensures consistent practices within the justice system.
  • Assisting in the development of standards and best practices
  • Drafting briefing material on specific aspects of the criminal prosecution process
  • Assisting with business process mapping, training, support and other maintenance and development activities for SCOPE, the Crown Case Management System

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

Business and Technical Legal Experience:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of the _Criminal Code of Canada, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms_, criminal law procedures, rules of evidence and case law
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role and functions of a prosecutor in the criminal justice system in Ontario
  • Proven judgement and analytical ability to determine appropriate legal remedies
  • Technical skills to work proficiently with computer technology and databases made available to professional staff

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:


  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder relationships and build partnerships
  • Demonstrated communication skills to explain, interact, train, and negotiate effectively
  • Relationship management skills to effect local change management and sustained best practices
  • Demonstrated persuasion skills to influence stakeholders and build consensus
  • Written communication skills to prepare complex business cases, reports, and presentations

Research and Analytical Skills:


  • Ability to assess business objectives, processes and their interactions with justice sector participants to identify process efficiency needs and standardization opportunities
  • Demonstrated research and analytical ability to organize a principled approach to cases and issues
  • Demonstrated research, analytical, and writing skills to draft and edit reference documents on key issues in criminal case management
