***The Director of Marketing & Communications oversees the organization's fundraising, marketing and communications and will identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities.


The position will be responsible for building a diversified funding and revenue portfolio and for creating and successfully completing the organization's fundraising campaigns and events throughout the year.

As well, The Director will champion the development and promotion of a strong, cohesive, and effective brand identity; utilizing a communication plan to raise the profile of the charity and increase our image and awareness in the marketplace.


The incumbent will work closely with staff and volunteers to capitalize on the provincial and national campaigns along with the established sponsorships and with our long term partnerships such as LETR, Motionball, Wizards Foundation.


Reporting to the President & CEO you will spear head the collaboration work on the annual goals set forth by the various fund raising task forces, partnerships and organizing committees.


OVERALL JOB DUTIES

Strategy and Fundraising Planning

  • Lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve revenue targets across the range of revenue streams
  • Oversee and enhance the rollout of provincial and national campaigns
  • Oversee and orchestrate the Major Games fundraising plan (Provincial Games, School Championships, Team Ontario/National Games) per the annual growth targets and games calendar plan
  • Solicit new corporate and third party events to generate new revenue
  • Manage an effective fundraising team (and related volunteer committees) that delivers fundraising targets
Strategic Partnership Growth and Development

  • Develop overarching objectives and strategies for current and future development opportunities for SOO
  • Develop and activate a cohesive plan to attract new sponsors and partners to SOO collectively
  • Proactively seek out opportunities to leverage existing partnerships to identify new opportunities and potential revenue streams
  • Liaise with Special Olympics Canada to identify potential crosspromotion opportunities with national partners and national campaign strategy
  • Recommend, establish, and implement a donor and sponsor recognition program
  • Assist in the orchestration of the LETR fundraising plan per the annual LETR growth plan
  • Represent the organization at events and press conferences.

Marketing & Communications

  • Through the development of a unified branding plan, strive to polish the SOO, bringing professional credibility and sophistication, leading to new unparalleled revenue opportunities
  • Provide leadership for brand and communications strategies to elevate the organization's profile and support Special Olympics business development and fundraising efforts.
  • Determine strategic communication campaigns to advance Special Olympics Ontario strategic goals, special projects and revenue campaigns
  • Oversee consistent branding and messaging across all communication materials and platforms.
  • Create and oversee production of marketing and promotional materials, ads (print and digital), newsletters, and reports, and maintain library of all
  • Research and evaluate marketing and promotional opportunities for both SOO and LETR
  • Liaise with program staff to create compelling and impactful stories which will generate new donors, solicit new volunteers and recruit new athletes into the movement
  • Utilize your talents and vision to revamp current initiatives such as: Special Olympics Annual Report, Law Enforcement Torch Run Year in Reviews, Provincial Sponsorship Appreciation Plans etcetera

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, or a related field, coupled with supplementary qualifications in fundraising, or a related discipline, would be beneficial.
  • Relevant certifications or professional designations in Fundraising, such as CFRE (Certified Fund-Raising Executive), or actively working towards the designation, is considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of comprehensive experience and success in resource development (fundraising and marketing development).
  • Excellent managerial skills and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to establish priorities and achieve financial targets in a team environment.
  • Positive track record in building and maintaining effective relationships with senior executives, donors, and staff.
  • Proven success in raising funds through major gifts, annual giving, and special events.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork, collaboration, and partnerships.
  • Excellent communication skills written, verbal, and presentation.
