What you'll be doing


The Registration & Exams Consultant (REC) develops and revises registration assessment and exam policies and procedures and manages the implementation of bylaw and legislative changes related to registration and exams.

Ensuring alignment with the _Health Professions Act,_ BCCNM Bylaws, Regulatory Philosophy, Human Rights and other legislation, the REC provides interpretation and advice to internal staff and external stakeholders regarding registration, particularly with respect to registration assessments and exams.

The REC develops and maintains relationships with external stakeholders, identifies issues and monitors trends to ensure assessment and exams policies and procedures remain relevant.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Develops and revises registration policies and procedures related to registration assessments and exams. Oversees and coordinates the review, update, implementation, and maintenance of registration assessment and exam policies.
  • Manages the implementation of bylaw and legislative changes within the Registration and Exams program. Monitors outcomes to continuously improve, streamline or align with shifts in regulation and the College's regulatory philosophy and mandate.
  • Conducts research on assessment and exam issues through literature reviews, environmental scans, and/or key informant interviews. Analyzes and makes recommendations for evidenceinformed assessment and exam program and policy development, implementation, dissemination, and evaluation.
  • Manages registration and exam files that are beyond the scope of Registration Assessors, but not yet referred to the Cases & Hearings team.
  • Determines sufficiency (adequacy and relevance) of assessment materials to inform and document registration decisions. Provides work direction to staff related to the same to ensure assessment processes and decisions are fair, defensible, and made in the public interest.

Your education & skills:


  • Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or bachelor's degree with equivalent education and years of progressively responsible nursing experience, including clinical practice settings.
  • Demonstrated selfdirected ability to seek out, understand, interpret, and follow legislative requirements, and to provide analysis, guidance, and feedback to staff and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse levels of internal and external stakeholders using a collaborative and solutionfocused approach.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles having contributed to project charters, work plans, and evaluation used to implement policy change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate operational and strategic plans to support department objectives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently to manage a complex workload with competing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, problemsolving and analytic skills, and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a constantly evolving regulatory and legislative environment and can deal with ambiguity or anticipate the impact of complex changes in regulation.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using MS CRM Dynamics, MS SharePoint, and MS Office, WebEx, web browsers, and search engines.
  • Must hold practicing registration in good standing with BCCNM or be eligible for practicing registration with BCCNM.

Bonus if you have

  • Regulatory and/or consulting experience, ideally in health care.
  • Experience working on and/or with committees.
  • Knowledge and experience with exam development, measurement, and related activities.
