Description

The key role of the PROSPERITY and Activities Coordinator is to facilitate PAQ's life skills cultural activities, and confidence building program for PAQ community members.

This program has three objectives and can be delivered at various PAQ's sites:


  • Develop certain life skills to prepare individuals for more responsible living situations
  • Build confidence and selfesteem.
  • Connect or reconnect with Indigenous culture.
The program is comprised of in-house trainings, workshops, community visits, access to services, guest speakers and visiting elders. The program curriculum is structured around three key areas.

Within each of these areas learning objectives and activities are flexible, and will be adapted to meet participants' needs, abilities, and preferences.

The program operates on a rolling basis and participants can join at any time.

The three key areas, with examples of possible content areas, are:

Life skills:Food security and cooking; conflict resolution skills; communication and interpersonal skills; decision-making and problem-solving skills; self-awareness; resilience, etc.

Wholistic well-being (based on the 4 interconnected aspects of one's being: intellect, emotional, spiritual, physical):healthy living (e.g. diabetes awareness, nutrition, sexual health)
; traditional healing and medicine
; creative writing
; photography
; physical activity (e.g. gym visits, yoga, outdoor experiences); meditation; sharing circles with Elders, etc.

In addition to coordinating this program, called Prosperity, the person in this position will also organize and facilitate activities and outings with residents of PAQ's permanent housing facility, Maison Akwhà:tsire.

Additional recreational activities may also be organised at various PAQ sites, or externally.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Life Skills, Cultural Activities and Confidence-Building program (approximately 25 hours per week):_
  • Design (enhance) and implement the Lifeskills, Cultural Activities and Confidencebuilding program curriculum based on the needs of Indigenous women and men and founded in the best practices of other similar programs.
  • Design (enhance) marketing materials for the program carry out outreach activities to generate interest in the program by community members.
  • Implement participant selection and monitoring tools and processes.
  • Build and maintain a network of partners and skilled workshop facilitators
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, events, and activities
  • Produce a monthly schedule of workshops
  • Obtain feedback on a regular basis from program participants and adjust the program as necessary.
  • Produce statistics and reports for the Life skills program.
  • Organize a program evaluation on a quarterly basis.
  • Activities Coordinator (approximately 10 to 15 hours per week):_
  • Facilitate activities, or support volunteers/interns to facilitate activities, both inside and outside the home for Maison Akwhà:tsire residents, and other community members at other sites.
  • Oversee and animate all calendar holidays, birthdays, and special events
  • Organize weekly and monthly activity calendar with budget.
  • Involve participants and engage intervention staff in activity planning.
  • Encourage participants to make contributions to activities.
  • Obtain feedback on activities from participants and staff.
  • Organize and animate special events and ceremony for PAQ's community.

Examples of community activities could include:

  • Bingo nights
  • Game/movie nights
  • Knitting/arts and crafts
  • Gardening
  • Outings to parks, museums, and other places of interest to PAQ community members

Hours and Workplace Location

  • The PROSPERITY program takes place primarily at PAQ's main shelter from 9am to 12pm, Monday to Friday. However, some activities may take place at PAQ 2 on St Dominique
  • The Coordinator is required to be on site by 8:30am every day to prepare and welcome participants. Activities may take place around or outside the city and can involve some travel.
  • Akhwà:tsire House activities take place at 1025 St. Hubert, but also can involve outings in and around the city and can involve some travel.
  • The Coordinator will be provided with a shared working space and laptop and is expected to work from PAQ's locations for preparation and coordination of activities.
