The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems (LUPPE) Division is responsible for leading BC's land stewardship strategies, supported by science and knowledge, that promote and guide the province's goals for reconciliation with Indigenous Nations, ecosystem health and biodiversity, conservation of wildlife and habitat and economic diversity and sustainability.

The Ecosystems Biologist supports collaborative stewardship through the development and implementation of regional mitigation, conservation, and enhancement projects in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.


Job Requirements:


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in biological sciences or related field and a minimum of 4 years of related experience*, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience* may be considered.
  • Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.

Note:

Immediately eligible is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six months of employment.

Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.-
Related experience includes:

  • Experience in field-based biological sampling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience providing advice within a regulatory regime.
  • Experience assessing and monitoring natural resources.

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:

  • Completion of master's degree in relevant field of expertise.
  • Experience providing advice within a regulatory regime related to terrestrial or aquatic ecosystems management.
  • Advanced experience working in a specialty area (e.g., aquatic ecosystems management, conservation lands management, wildlife habitat management).
  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.

About this Position:

Currently there is 1 permanent opportunity available, as well as 1 temporary opportunity available until December 31, 2023. This temporary opportunity may become permanent.
