The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally.

The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex.

Kinross' comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.


Purpose of Role:


As part of the Kinross Great Bear project team, based in Kinross headquarters in Toronto, the External Affairs Manager will make a significant contribution to the development and execution of the company's government, community, stakeholder relations and communications programs for the project.


This includes managing relationships, partnerships and implementing programs and communications with neighboring local and Indigenous Communities; representing the company with government and non-government agencies, including industry associations.

Manages and executes the company's participation in community, civic and public events. Will play a key role in organizing and executing the community consultations required in support of project permitting. Protects and promotes the company's reputation through strategic outreach, including executing a media and communications strategy in Ontario. Identifies, develops and implements long-term partnerships to support the Great Bear project.


The Manager will be expected to spend appropriate time in the wider Red Lake area to maintain, expand and nurture key local relationships and be available to participate in key meetings and relevant events across the province.

It is expected that, during permitting and construction stages, a significant time presence in the project area will be needed.

The role requires an individual that is comfortable working in a matrix team environment and overseeing remote teams (1-2 Red Lake based staff).


Responsibilities:


  • Develop an overall strategy for community and rightsholder/stakeholder relations that is aligned with and supports Kinross' global standards and programs, and meets the needs of the project and operations.
  • Develop thorough understanding of the Kinross Social Performance Standard and associated standards, tools, and reporting mechanisms
  • Identify all key stakeholders. Develop and foster relationships with relevant rights holders and stakeholders in the area.
  • In coordination with Corporate Community Relations and ESG, identify and develop strategic partnerships which support the project's license to operate (e.g., in key areas of people development and environment)
  • Support the strategy for, and development of, collaboration agreements with local First Nation communities, through crossfunctional internal engagement and alignment. Lead the implementation of these collaboration agreements.
  • Develop, implement and manage the Great Bear Project Social Performance Plan in support of the site's business plan and in coordination with the company's corporate objectives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, policies, procedures and agreements that are aligned with site and corporate community and government relations frameworks.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Government Relations functions to achieve and maintain familiarity with all governmental and regulatory issues that may impact the business, as well as any potential engagements in the local area. Stay abreast of current and relevant legislation.
