Job Description:
Join the AECOM team as an Archaeology Technician III, based out of our London, Hamilton, Richmond Hill, or Barrie offices.
Job responsibility:
- Conduct Stages 2-4 archaeological fieldwork under the guidance of a field supervisor.
- Identify and recover Indigenous and Euro-Canadian artifacts as directed by the site supervisor.
- Prioritize Health and Safety, adhering to all AECOM procedures.
- Willingness to travel and work out of town, across Ontario, for extended periods.
- Assume a junior leadership role during fieldwork.
- Provide technical support to the Field Supervisor.
- Assist in training new team members.
- Lead by example and take on additional tasks assigned by field supervisors/management.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Ability to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork, including lifting up to 40lbs and repetitive movements.
- Effective and professional communication with the Field Supervisor regarding site work-related information, issues, and concerns.
- Punctuality and preparedness for all weather conditions with appropriate gear readily available.
- Reliable transportation to and from the assigned office or designated project meeting spot.
- Sensitivity, awareness, and a respectful attitude towards Indigenous culture and people.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven ability to recognize cultural material and collect it in a controlled manner.
- Demonstrated physical ability and care when conducting excavations.
- Effective team player with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Valid Ontario driver's license.
- Ability to support the Field Supervisor with technical aspects of archaeology and lead the team.
- Familiarity with MCM Standards & Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.
