Overview


The Building Attendant is a full time hourly unionized position. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Building Attendant is responsible for facility operations and maintenance of the Arena facilities. To perform assigned tasks in the day-to-day operations of the facility with emphasis on building and property maintenance, ice maintenance and its operations and as well as facility changeovers. Ensuring all work is being done safely in accordance to the TD Station JHSC, the Workplace Violence and Harassment course, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Worksafe NB Guidelines. 

This position oversees the facility to ensure programs/events run as scheduled and is responsible for the security and safety of the facility and its patrons, keeping all areas of the facility clean and that all mechanical aspects of the facility are maintained and kept in good working order. 

This role pays an hourly rate of $23.65 CAD (per CBA).

Benefits as per the union agreement.

This position will remain open until May 22, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the facility is opened and closed at scheduled times
  • Responsible for the security of the building
  • Notify the Operations Manager regarding any staff or facility related issues
  • Operate all the components of the Facility fleet: the ice resurfacer and/or specialized equipment such as edger, ride on Scrubber, Bobcat, etc.
  • Safely operate Forklifts for shipping / receiving, moving items essential to conversions, elevating staff in Man Cage or moving items around the property as required. May also include Production or Convention equipment if needed.
  • Safely operate TD Station truck as needed   
  • Operate power tools and cleaning and safety equipment
  • Operate and monitor facility operation systems and records readings.
  • Effectively fill in operators logs as required
  • Perform any duties required for set up and tear down of Trade Shows, Concerts and other special events.
  • Perform general cleaning/maintenance (i.e. mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, washroom/dressing room cleaning, snow shoveling, garbage pick-up, painting, waxing floors, scrubbing walls, etc.) in accordance with the daily and spring/summer housekeeping schedule when Custodial Staff is not scheduled.
  • The scope of the required unsupervised maintenance shall be all maintenance not requiring Facility Technician Supervision up to but excluding working directly with live electrical repairs, working with toxic materials and mechanical engine repairs and replacement.
  • Assisting the Facility Technician with Mechanical, Electrical and limited HVACR tasks required when requested.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance, equipment checks, annual maintenance and minor repair as assigned (i.e. minor plumbing, re-lamping of light fixtures, changing ceiling tiles, fix rubber floor, rink boards and gates, replace broken rink glass, check fire extinguisher, blade changes etc.) with minimal supervision. 
  • Respond to requests from patrons (general public) and other Facility Managers on general facility issues and/or maintenance requests.
  • Safely perform and document Annual Heat Pump checks and maintenance program outlined in the Heat Pump Maintenance logbooks while reporting any additional issues directly to the Facility Technician.   
  • Annual checks and maintenance of Exhaust and Supply fans including greasing bearings and identifying and replacing bad belts while reporting any additional issues directly to the Facility Technician. This will exclude any further mechanical or electrical repairs.
  • Respond to customer needs in a timely, professional, helpful and courteous manner and follow-up to ensure their needs have been met
  • Consistently meet service standards, and follow up with customer during and after delivery of services to ensure their needs have been met
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are being followed by patrons and part time maintenance staff as applicable
  • Promote a safety conscious working environment.
  • Notice potentially hazardous situations, consistently enforce safety procedures and demand compliance with health and safety regulations with part time staff and contractors
  • Provide functional supervision to part time staff while on duty, delegate and assign job duties, and assist with training
  • Ensure facility scheduling is executed in a prompt and timely manner
  • Responsible for the allocation of dressing room keys
  • Assist with ice removal and installation including leveling and painting ice surface
  • Assist with annual shut down maintenance
  • Adhere to corporate initiatives (i.e. recycling, energy management)
  • Utilize computer systems (i.e. Outlook, Windows applications)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Education and Experience 

  • Minimum 3 years' related experience
  • High School Diploma
  • Previous work experience in a multi-purpose Area / Event Facility will be an asset.
  • Technical accreditations and work experience in other mechanical environments will be considered a strong asset. 
  • Standard First Aid, CPR and AED Certificates will be required. Training will be given to the right candidate if necessary.
  • Fall-arrest training, WHMIS training will be required. Training will be given to the right candidate if necessary

Required Skills/Knowledge 

  • The ability to obtain the working knowledge of the operation of refrigeration and HVAC plant, ice making and flooding methods as well as general trade fundamentals and janitorial/cleaning work methods
  • Basic knowledge in plumbing, carpentry and electrical is an asset Team player with good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work with minimal or no guidance, yet able to seek guidance when the situation is unclear.
  • Ability to plan and organize own activities to accomplish pre-determined standards or procedures, seeks clarity on priorities as needed, monitors the quality and timeliness of own work.
  • General knowledge of New Brunswick Health and Safety Act. To perform duties safely and adhere to the TD Station JHSC mandates and WorksafeNB guidelines
  • Demonstrated staff supervision skills and ability to delegate effectively
  • Good Communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (word and excel) 
  • B. Class "5" Driver's License in good standing 
  • Participate in a flexible rotating schedule including nights and weekends and on-call rotation
