The BCFMA is responsible for supporting BC families by providing a free service to track and collect child and spousal support.

Our in-house Legal Counsel positions assist in the effective administration of child/spousal maintenance support through the provision of legal services to the Agency and providing BCFMA staff with advice on all aspects of family maintenance law.

The BCFMA is currently recruiting for a
part-time up to full-time
Legal Counsel position in our Kamloops office.


What can I expect in the Legal Counsel role?

  • Providing client managers, case managers and other BCFMA staff with advice on all aspects of family maintenance law.
  • Responsible for preparing cases for Court, instructing external legal counsel, and making Court appearances as a representative of the BC Family Maintenance Agency.
  • Working effectively with legal assistant team members to provide high quality and timely legal services.
  • Effectively communicating with other stakeholders in the family law legal system including payors and recipients.

What will you need to be successful?

  • Be a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia and bring a minimum of three years of Family Law and Court experience.
  • Familiarity with real estate, bankruptcy and insolvency, and creditor remedies law would be preferred.
  • We are a high volume environment that requires an attention to detail and a high level of organizational skill.
  • Our lawyers are part of multidisciplinary teams, and therefore the ability to work collaboratively with others is key to success.
