Junior Cost Estimator
Papp Plastics is a progressive Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive plastic injection molding company located in LaSalle. Papp has been in business for 30 years. We are a multi plant operation that runs 3 shifts 5 days a week.


Role Overview:

Entry-level position ideally suited to a recent graduate in Engineering or Business looking to join a growing auto parts manufacturer.


Reporting to the Engineering manager, you will review customer RFQ's and will manage all aspects of estimating costs for new programs and transfer jobs, of preparing all related RFQ documents, and of submitting all quotes and proposals via customer specific templates and web portals.

Additionally, you will utilize your superior communication and teamwork skills to ensure that all cross-functional team members are aware of all specific production, purchasing and labour assumptions used in the quote as well as all commitments made to the customer as part of the RFQ process.


Key duties:


  • Review customer request for quotations, specifications, blueprints, CAD, and technical files in order to assess costs and pricing per established guidelines
  • Participate in daily Quotation Review meetings to assure that quotations are issued in a timely and accurate manner and ensure that all roadblocks to 100% ontime delivery of quotations are known and acted upon
  • Complete estimation model(s), quotation letters, customer forms, etc. as needed in a timely and accurate manor according to established templates and policies
  • Perform contract reviews to ensure accuracy of incoming orders in the areas covered by incumbents and/or others quotations in a timely manner according to established guidelines
  • Establish unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors and location impacts
  • Quote 3 suppliers on all tooling, resin and components unless deviation requested
  • Communicate competitive sources & pricing pertaining to tooling, resins & components to the Purchasing & Materials Supervisor
  • Communicate quote terms & conditions of products to the Purchasing & Materials Supervisor; Materials Dept. and Quality Dept.
  • Communicate quoted budgets on all tooling, resin, colorant and components to Program Managers and plant personnel
  • Conduct feasibility studies pertaining to new / transfer programs
  • Manage the QPP Process for the production of service parts
  • Attend QPP meetings with Program Managers & Team
  • Control, catalogue, and assign tooling numbers for molds and fixtures in conjunction with the Program Managers
  • Present estimates and conduct review meetings with personnel responsible for Product Realization
  • Assist plant & materials dept. with cost savings, feasibility studies, continuous improvements, time studies & US awarded business

Education:


  • Business and/or Engineering degree or diploma preferred

Experience:


  • Exposure to manufacturing operations in injection molding and/or experience in a commercial management role an asset
  • Cost estimating experience an asset
  • Injection mold design and/or maintenance experience helpful
  • Experience working with Tier 1 and Tier 2 Automotive clients a key asset
  • Ability to work overtime

Skills:


  • Knowledge of common business practices concerning the process of purchasing and selling of goods and services from both the supplier and customer viewpoints
  • Knowledge of injection manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Automotive Industry practices of buying and selling
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints at an intermediate skill level
