    Description

    Your Opportunity:

    Reporting to the Unit Manager, Assistant Head Nurses support activity within Level 3 OR Surgical Suite at the University of Alberta Hospital acting as a resource and support for all staff, surgeons and anesthesia. The responsibility of this position is to primarily support the Otolaryngology, Head and Neck team as well as other teams within Level 3 OR. The Assistant Head Nurse organizes the daily functioning of the service, guides and directs nursing personnel, works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, and acts in accordance with hospital guidelines, professional standards, AHS Code of Conduct and within the limitations of the collective agreements. The Assistant Head Nurse serves as a mentor and preceptor for all staff and students.

    Description:

    As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

    Required Qualifications:

    Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).     Additional Required Qualifications:

    BScN Required.Peri-operative Nursing Course or demonstrated experience required.Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication in a timely manner with management and the OR team is required.Demonstrated ability to foster inclusive, collaborative and supportive teamwork within a multidisciplinary team in accordance with AHS policies required.Demonstrated ability to lead or facilitate change, implementation of new initiatives or procedures is advantageous.Experience with surgical robots and lasers would be advantageous.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Minimum five years current OR experience in a tertiary care facility preferred.Demonstrated leadership experience in a charge nurse or supervisory role preferred.Current OHNS clinical experience preferred.Experience with Connect Care (Optime), MS Word, TEAMS, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint preferred.Canadian Perioperative Nursing certificate preferred.
