Hours: 27 hours per week with availability to work all shifts - days, evenings, and weekends

Oakville Public Library has seven library branches that are dedicated to serving the diverse community of Oakville. In this role, you'll support the public, collections, and library operations to provide services that connect people to what inspires them.

What you'll do:


As a Materials Handling Assistant & Courier you will:

  • Provide delivery services of library materials between OPL branches and other locations as required using a library vehicle.
  • Perform materials handling duties including sorting materials, packing outgoing materials and unpacking incoming materials.
  • Sort, shelve and shelfread library material.
  • Operate and troubleshoot sorting equipment and resolve exceptions related to sorter.
  • Process library materials for offsite OPL Express locations, including troubleshooting of library software and hardware.
  • Move and transport equipment and other materials.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections.
  • Monitor vehicle performance, maintain vehicle in clean condition, and report vehicle operational problems to supervisor.
  • Arrange for fueling and maintenance servicing of the vehicle.
  • Direct customers to appropriate staff for assistance.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff as required.
  • Develop new skills and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Participate on internal and/or external committees as required.
  • Deliver excellent service to customers of all ages by adhering to the AODA's Customer Service Standard.
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, other relevant health and safety legislation, and the Oakville Public Library's Health & Safety Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your experience and educational background:


  • Secondary school diploma.
  • A valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver's Licence Class G required with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour

Note:
Applicants must have a clean driver's abstract for consideration. Successful applicants will be required to provide the Library with a copy of their drivers licence and all new hires may be required to pass a road test as a condition of employment

  • Previous experience driving a large vehicle such as a cube van.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Driving trainer course an asset.
